I know I am changing the conversation here

I get the feeling everything is going OK.

I know we have some new recent commits.

I think we lost one WR.

Do we really have three QBs in this class?

Any important positions to fill this year not yet addressed?

Is this class going to be as good as last two?

Yea, we got 3 QB's committed. Maybe one of 'em ever turns out as a QB, and even Merka is not a certainty. Gonzales is likely a safety, good athlete. 6'2 185, he is big enough to play QB.

The Boykin kid from West Mesquite is something to see. The guy throws darts, not passes. He can knock you down with it from 30 yards. He's a perfect QB for the spread option we run, except for he is only 6'0 tall. But he could be that freak like Brees, who overcomes that problem.

I cannot remember anytime, seeing a kid with such an arm. Cannon is a term that will come up when he hits Fort Worth. He has a year to go, and what if he grew a little. That is the dream.

recruiting going great, maybe best class yet-- certainly developing that way

key needs:

1 D Line we need a nose, a DT (3 technique) and D ends. lots of good prospects in play.

2 Field corner and a 3rd corner field or boundary

3 Safety GP can never have enough safties

4 another O lineman or 2

5 RB

6 WR

5 of the 11 commits in the Texas Top 150 and Rivals Texas 100: Gildon, Thompson, Hatten, Merka & Griffin. Bush is also listed in the 150 as is Sanders. So far 4 QBs as Bush expected to take over those duties and Griffin may also see QB time making 5.

OT being retooled very well so far with Thompson & Hatten (both on the TexasFootball Super Teams) and still after a couple more. LBer Gildon is possibly the best of the bunch so far but overall an extremely athletic group.

Missing the big name RB after looking like we were close on several of the best. Also missing DL, However WR recruiting also going well so far and is another area we need some bodies.

I feel our biggest needs are:

1a.) DT- I really hope we can get one of the kids from West Monroe, that would be a homerun for us. And since one of them rated his visit to TCU as a "perfect 10" I would think we have a great shot although we are competing against SEC schools Ark, Tenn, and Miss St.

1b.) WR- It makes my head spin seeing how many key playmakers we will graduate at WR this year. Really need to get some guys that can step in right away. I think Cameron White is that guy so I really hope we can get him back on the hook, but you won't know for sure with him until signing day. Also would like to see us get Hatten's cousin, who is a 6'5'' WR who just made the Rivals Texas Top 100, this would kill two birds as the cousins would love to play together and would hopefully solidify Hattens commit. We haven't offered yet but I hope we do.

2.) OL- Assuming we hang on to Hatten and Thompson we need to get some road graters to play guard. Naff from Del City fits the bill, but it appears that he is waiting for an OU offer, and will probably get it. I really want to see us get the 6'6'' 330lber from Amarillo, LaQuan McGowan as well.

Knowing what a good job that our staff does of evaluating talent, I'd say it's ALWAYS a good thing when they are getting committments from their early targets.

Good point. We've made progress at safety, LB, corner, not DL. At QB, WR, notta' TE, need OG, center and lock up Hatten. Myles hints we might be after him at RB, not sure tho. This has started out like Frogdaddy said, good early quality, and that is when we have brought in our best classes.

Not sure who does the best job of evaluating, but Anderson, Williamson, Burns, and now Fuente seem to be the protagonist. Watched the development last year(and before) of Bryant as a prospect, then how he became a big find, and that was Fuente. Burns hit a bonanza for us last year in Florida. Got White early, if he stays.

Met some Clemson fans at the hotel in Omaha. They think we're doing pretty good with our football recruiting

And they're right.

Glad Clemson made it to CWS.
