How do payouts work?

Other than the BCS and Cotton bowl the BWW is the highest paying bowl game involving Big 12 schools, does this really benefit TCU or is all the money divided equally between all Big 12 schools?

Here's a good (albeit old) article from USAToday on how bowl payouts work:

Basically, it's impossible to put attach a fixed number for bowl payouts. Since bowls negotiate individually with conferences, the payout to each team is usually different.

There are also variations between expenses, some bowls require you to buy fewer tickets than other bowls so you can save money that way.

As far as dividing the payout goes, I believe what happens is a school gets to keep half of it's bowl payout, and then splits the other half equally among conference members. So we'll only get to keep half of the Copper Bowl payout -- but we also get money from K-State's Fiesta Bowl and OU's Cotton Bowl, etc, so some of it evens out.

Yes, equally. Well, WV and TCU will not get a full share, per their admission agreement.

Thought the graduated payments only applies to tv money and not bowl payouts.
