When coach Jim Schlossnagle arrived at TCU in 2003, he wanted to model the Horned Frogs after other successful baseball programs.

Rice was one of the templates he used. Good pitching, consistency and national prominence were among the things Schlossnagle was after, things that have been present in the Owls’ program throughout its run of success.

But there’s another characteristic in the Rice program that has driven its success that — coincidentally or not — is part of the Horned Frogs’ success this season: Houston-area talent. ...

And it surprises me that not one person has mentioned (unless I missed it) the very real possibility that the Houston pipeline is in jeopardy of running dry if we lose Whitting to UH.

Was going to post that, but didn't wan t to jinx us.

Surprised we hadn't lost TH yet to someone, but this looks like the year ...

Wonder if Mazey is looking at another HC job?

Love watching Whitting talk about hitting during the Reaching the Peak series on the Mtn. Great coach.

Good thing is there is lots of Houston talent, but he seems to get some of the best ...

Speaks to what a great place TCU is and how happy our coaches are here. I don't think most TCU fans truly understand just how happy the majority of our coaches are with the jobs that they have. FWIW, more Houston area talent headed our way in the fall - Andrew Mitchell from Stratford, Stefan Chrichton from Cinco Ranch, Tyler Green from Brazoswood (if he doesn't sign), Nick Frey from The Woodlands.

Coached under Noble there also.

Did they get rid of Noble?

They'll be on campus in the fall?

Assuming none of them sign a pro contract, yes. Know Green was drafted, would have to go look to see if the others were.

The others were not drafted, not because they weren't good enough.

Yes. Couple weeks ago.

There's no word about that on the UH website

Odd.

Unless I missed it, there is no announcement of his firing.

If Whitting gets the call, do you think that Noble would make a good replacement? Might keep that Houston pipeline open

Noble has been a successful college baseball coach...there's no way he will take a backseat job.

Emphatically NO.

It had been reported on local Houston TV a couple weeks ago they were going in a different direction, and they were trying to work out a settlement with him, but they didn't reach a settlement and have now reassigned him to some kind of facilities position. UH doesn't have much money, and this new AD Rhoades probably doesn't have much to work with.
