Wow. That is pretty classy OU. I understand telling a kid that you are full at his position, but to withdraw an offer is pretty low.

What's not classy about it? I guess OU needs one running back not two. We do the same thing with recruits. The fact is that it is first come and first served.

There might be more diplomatic ways to go about it... If anything happens to where Williams switches his committment, one could expect that Sims might not be as high on OU as he once might have been.

Looking at an image of Baugh smiling, the resemblance is even spookier. Hair is basically the only difference.

Uncanny.

Maybe that is why he is so high on TCU, even without a TCU offer.

Should we start printing the #45 Second Coming t-shirts now or wait?

Would be nice, but since the rule changes for jersey's, he would actually have to play half-back to wear it.

Telling a guy that his offer no longer stands because someone took his spot is commonplace. But teams generally will tell the recruits, "we have x amount of spots for this position, first however many to commit get the spot, if you aren't one of them, we will no longer hold a spot for you". So it's not unclassy that Sims no longer has a place at OU, the unclassy part is (based on the fact that Sims seemed so surprised by their withdrawal of the offer), that OU apparently didn't make it clear to him that if another RB committed before him, his offer would no longer stand.

No. I have never heard or seen it written that we have withdrawn an offer to a guy. We communicate to him that the spot that we wanted him for has been filled; best of luck.

Those are two very different things.

I'd agree with Talor that it's different in the way the communication takes place.

We have, under the current regime, withdrawn offers from kids even after they have committed. Hard to point fingers at the OU staff on this as is should have been very clear that 2 RBs is really more than they needed but took them anyway and no way were they going to add a 3rd.

With the RBs they took for 2010 and then add the 2 Williams' this class OU is overloaded at the position.

No, it probably isn't. If OU wanted to have someone come there enough to offer the, why wouldn't they tell them? Every school (incl. TCU) does this. Not a big deal. The recruit is probably just upset. You only hear one side of the story in these deals.

Communication is a 2-way thing. There's a speaker and a spoken-to.

I have no idea whether the speaker withheld information (I would think that OU's interests would be served by telling the player "commit now, or you may miss your chance" -- you know, close the sale so to speak) or the spoken-to wasn't listening carefully or paying attention at all.

Sims just had his offer pulled by OU after they got Williams.

Apparently, he was surprised that they never told him it could happen when the offer was extended.

Where did this information come from?

True; my point is if something happens to make Williams switch his commitment, the way OU handled the issue (behind closed doors) could have ramifications on how Sims might perceive the school in the future.

Baylorfans thinks there was some $$$ involved in the switch. They also thought they would make a bowl last season.
