Help me understand

First off I come in peace. I am a Baylor graduate who went to grad school at TCU and I am trying to understand the animosity that exists between my two schools. Is there anyone that can help me understand it from a TCU perspective? I live in FW and I really enjoyed last season, especially how the city embraced the team.

As is pretains to the most recent conference realignment crap it appears that there were many powerful BU alumni that came out and made sure their Alma mater was not stepped on by their big brother(or cousin). I have to assume that if in a similar situation this would happen at any school. I also believe this was the case during the dissolution of the SWC. Now being in a conference with ATM I know what it is like to HATE another school, and I wonder where that animosity came from (I don't think it takes much explanation why folks hate the aggies, although I can give a fee details if need be).

Anways any info would be appreciated. Go Frogs!

Oh and way to take down the Evil Empire this weekend. Throw the upside down longhorn proudly, just not in front of VY, you might get attacked.

I'm sick and tired of seeing my school that I love left out of the party. Screw you! I hate Baylor and wish nothing but continued pain and misery on your sorry program. You are pathetic and do not deserve to be in a BCS conference. It was only through dirty politics that you obtained your position.

TCU being "left out of the party" is Baylor's fault? Explain.

The truth is that the old SWC negotiated from a position of weakness. What should have happened is both the Big 8 and the SWC should have merged.

Instead, our leadership agreed to a situation where only 4 of the SWC teams made the cut. In the 15 years prior to the merger, Texas, A&M, Baylor, and Tech were the strongest teams.

What happened to the Baylor program after the move to the Big XII makes the decision look very bad. TCU has overcome numerous obstacles and built themselves into a terrific program. You are to be congratulated. If Baylor could help you get into the Big XII, we would. We need 16 strong teams in the Big XII to make sure that we are attack-proof from other conferences.

Whatever you think about the internet warriors from Baylor that persecuted you on this site, the truth is, Baylor would love to get a strong program like yours into the Big XII. Baylor needs an attack-proof conference. While the television contract helps with this, it doesn't ensure the stability of the conference.

IMO, your thought that Baylor doesn't really support your efforts doesn't make sense.

I kinda felt like he was holding back too.

With the anonimity of an internet forum, there are plenty of people on both sides that have fired off their typing fingers about the relative merits of each school. Many only feel that their respective school is better if others are denigrated. Everybody gets their panties in a wad, feels bad and fires back. Probably if you talk to people who are unfamiliar with these anonymous tough guy forums, there is not as much animosity between the schools.

I'm certainly no advocate for the Big 12 doormat, aka Baylor, who seems more concerned with its conference affiliation than its football program, but it's every man for himself out there. I cannot possibly believe we would have turned down the Big 12 to appease Baylor had the roles been reversed in 1994.

That said- Baylor can continue to suck in the Big12-2. They seem pretty excited about it.

getting left out of the Big 12 or whatever it is now will only motivate TCU more, the chip our players and fans have is apparent everytime we take the field against a big 12 opponent, let them worry about $$$$ and power while TCU gets closer to National Championships in Football and Basball

I'm sorry, but that myth was sorely exposed this week. Baylor got into the Big 12 not on merit, but on political stroke. Even your own fans were admitting it when things started to look bad for you last week. Yes, your team was better than ours, but that didn't make them an obvious choice.

And if you truly believe that being in a BCS conference should be based on merit, then why do you think you should be included in this new version of the Big 12? If you really think the conference ought to have the teams most deserving, then why don't we put that to the test?

Sorry, but "squatter's rights" don't cut it around here.

First there was a good rivalry between TCU and Baylor in the SWC (The series was the third longest in the nation at the time it stopped - even ahead of Nebraska-Kansas).

I don't think the way they got in to the Big 12 is the only factor - mostly how the bear fans have just gone on and on in sports circles about how much better they are for the past 15 years that has allowed the hate to continue to grow. If they actually had a good football team it would be one thing, but to have a bad team and still think you are better... No one wants to be around obnoxious azzes.

I personnally would like to see Baylor go 0-12 every year (Yes, I root for A&M once a year). Though I do stop short of wanting anything bad such as injuries to befall them.

As I recall, the real animosity towards Baylor began at the announcement of the SWC breakup in 1994 when a down and dejected Frank Windegger (TCU athletic director at the time) approached Baylor and asked about continuing the series after the SWC broke up...

Baylor, already feeling superior, offered TCU a 2 Waco/1 Fort Worth matchup... That was the ultimate insult that I will never forgive Baylor for...

I will concede that in 1994 Baylor was ahead of us in football, but those days are long behind... Baylor's foorball program has gone through a dark age similar to TCU's in the 60's through the 80's and Baylor's aint over yet... I remember TCU's all so well- bad hires, tide and momentum goes against you, lack of commitment from the University and more bad hires are made and the downward spiral just goes on and on...

I feel Baylor's healing will begin when they get away from Texas, A&M and OU... if the big 12 had broken up, then Baylor would have started the healing process like TCU did, but as long as UT and OU pound you year after year after friggin year, there aint going to be any way to reverse the cycle (TCU lost 25 straight to UT and Baylor is in the middle of a like-kind streak now)...

With some commitment, luck and TCU type tenacity, Baylor could have possibly dominated CUSA in a few years and maybe made a BCS run... You guys could re-focus, raise some money, get committed then dough kick SMU, Rice, Tulane and Southern Miss and anybody else in that league. Then, you guys could regain some swagger and use the Baptist card to recruit like Teaff had back in the day- he used that to get in with the black recruits. He was remarkable at that, but a Teaff only comes along once in a couple of lifetimes...

The likelihood is low of a Baylor resurgence even in CUSA is low (because it is oh so difficult to do as we have found out), but a Baylor BCS appearance is a hell of alot more likely to occur in C-USA than it is in the Big 12...

The apparent saving of the Big 12 may help Baylor's football program financially, but that is where it ends...

To all my Baylor Big 12 buds on this site, get off of this site, it is full of the bitter, hopeless, and hapless comments of a school that could not cut it before, and thanks to a couple of good years in a lack-luster confernece, they think they can cut it with the big boys...they cannot.

Which is why no Big 12 team should waste their time with TCU...we will never allow them in and after Utah vacates to the PAC 10, TCU will be left in a conference where Southlake Carroll could be the champion!

You are probably right about Big 12 inclusion but take this to the bank:

TCU has already ended your baseball season and will finish ranked higher than UT in football this season.

So all you lowlife scum care about is money and it and your greedy, overbearing, and arrogant University has ruined the Big 12 and maybe before it is over all of college athletics.
