Every year at this time of the year sleepers emerge onto the recruiting scene. Lake Dallas defensive end Graysen Schantz fits that description, at least somewhat.
Schantz landed on the radar of a few programs after his junior season that saw him record 83 tackles and 12 sacks. He took it a notch up in 2012 recording 15 sacks (a new school-record) and 33 quarterback hurries.
For his efforts, Schantz was a finalist for the DFW First Down Club Defensive Player of the Year honors which included fellow nominees Sammy Douglas, a TCUcommitment and Cal commit Chad Whitener. The rising prospect was pleased with his senior campaign as he accomplished the goals he set forth prior to the season.
“I thought I did really well and it’s what I wanted it to be,” he said. “I beat the school record for sacks and that was my personal goal. I thought it was a successful season.”
Needless to say, the interest for the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder has picked up substantially after colleges caught a glimpse of his senior season.
“I got a lot of response, a lot of coaches came up and that’s when UTSA offered me,” he said. “OSU came up and talked to me, Tulsa came up and talked to me, and (Texas) A&M came and saw me. I got a bunch of response.
“I have offers from UNM (New Mexico), Air Force, University of North Texas, UTSA, Idaho, UTEP and a couple more. OSU has been talking to me a lot; the defensive coordinator came and talked to me so I think they’re pretty interested. TCU has talked to me too and so hasRice.”
Schantz recently made an official visit to New Mexico and has plans to make officials to Air Force and UT-San Antonio next month. However, he’s not rushing into a decision just yet as he waits to see what other schools come forward with an offer.
“I liked the trip (to New Mexico) a lot but I’m just waiting a little while longer before I do anything,” Schantz said. “I’m open to anything; I want to get some bigger schools involved because I think I can play at that level. We’ll see how everything pans out.”
TCU is among the schools that continue to keep track of Schantz. Although the Frogs haven’t offered, according to Schantz the prospect of an offer does seem promising if the Frogs don’t land other targets on their list.

He sounds solid to me but TCU hasn't offered yet! But as the article states if TCU doesn't get the ones they are after they may offer!
