Was I supposed to type something here?
why is the season shot?
Based upon last season, and the potential for development with returning players, many thought that we would be going into Norman 5-0. Instead of development, we got regression, confusion, and unpreparedness. Squeaked by lowly Cal. Annihilated by SMU. Choked away a perfectly winnable game to UT. Finally woke up and played a pretty good game against lowly Tech. So, we limp into Norman 3-2 wondering just which Frog team will stumble down the aircraft ramp: The team that played efficiently against Tech, or the slapstick routine that got pantsed against SMU?

Even if the Frogs play as good or better than they did at Tech, winning at Norman is still a tall order. A lot of things have to go right that aren't under our control for us to win, like turnovers, and bad play from them. They could suffer a letdown, and we must be prepared to take advantage.

Therein lies the rub: We haven't been prepared for an opponent this season. We beat Tech because some observant soul on the Offensive staff noticed that we run the ball pretty well. Took them several weeks, but notice they finally did. Now, with this ground-based triumph in our rearview, it's time to go back to a pass-happy fling-fest! Whee! The defense is still about as solid as aerogel, and OU will blow through that like a freight train through a fogbank.

My extreme pessimism is rooted in the shattered standards that we used to be able to count on: Fundamentals. Blocking, tackling, pursuit, blocking lanes, pressure; all of that has evaporated over the last couple of years and is now gnawing away at another. Because of this, we lack confidence, poise, and that swagger we used to have. Now we wait for The Other Shoe to Drop. One win against Tech didn't bring it all back, and a big play or two from OU will smash whatever we put together all back to pieces pretty quickly.

A loss at OU puts us out of contention for a Championship spot. Best we could hope for is the 3rd Place Bowl (The Purolator Re-Built Alternator Bowl!). Even in the unlikely event we pull off a monstrous upset, we still have a tough schedule ahead. For having so many multi-starsie recruits, we are thin all over the field. With no bye week left and a short week before another road match at WVU, we face another must-win with some players missing due to injury and no time to get them healed.

This season had great potential. The SMU debacle shattered that. Like the ELP tune:

"Well they grabbed him from the wreckage of the Palais in bits,
They tried to fit together all the bits that would fit.
But some of it was missing, a part did arrive too late..."

We play WVU at home.

Other than that, my sentiment is mostly the same. We could really turn it around I suppose, I just have very little confidence that we will based on what I have seen. I think the coaching staff is content with 6-7 wins.

The road match at WVU is actually right across the street at ACS.
