Completely disagree and the reason is the SEC. That is basically a playoff in itself so why go through that again.

You have a clear 1 this year in ND and a clear 2 in the winner of the SEC and of all years this one really is a no brainer.

I agree with this. This year is a pretty clear cut case of who should play for the NC. If the SEC starts losing NCs and bowl games, then I think that changes, but they deserve a team in the NC game.

Not sure ND is really the best but guess we will find out. Not sure A&M at No. 9 doesn't deserve to play. A&M might be playing the best. LSU on a neutral field can beat anyone. So what if it is SEC heavy? Georgia, Florida, Bama they are good and deserve the rankings. Oregon. Stanford. Any of those teams are as good as the other. Stanford actually beat ND on the field. It is a pure toss up IMO. Though I think Bama is the best team and still might lose to Georgia.

Notre Dame is not a clear number one. Had to rely on blown FG by Pitt and Stanford actually scored the winning touchdown. Certainly not clear but will have their chance to prove it. They have the best LB.

Stanford lost to ND and that was not a blown call, he was clearly stopped 3 yards short of the goal and was down.

BTW, that was an attempt to tie the game, not win and ND dominated in that game.

And not saying ND isn't good. They are undefeated and they are a good team. No question. But I don't think BCS teams 2-8 are clear cut. I don't think on the field it is clear cut ND is the best team. But based on the record, if you want to go by that, can't argue it.

I don't agree at all. Florida is the most "deserving" of the SEC teams based on playing a great schedule. ND and Ohio State are the most "deserving" for beating all the teams in front of them. Oregon is the most "deserving" based on my "the eyeball test." And KSU is the most "deserving" because the played by far the deepest schedule in the "toughest conference" according to the computers.

As usual, it's clear as mud. We'll continue to see lots of shifting rationales for why so in so deserves to be here and eventually we'll all be beaten down by the "system got it right mantra."

I can't wait for the godawful "playoff" system to begin in two years so I can have something new to biatch about.

I saw the game, I saw Taylor stopped well short of the goal, I heard the whistle stop play, I saw the players unpiling and then I saw Taylor able to lunge.

When you stop a players forward motion he is down even if he isn't on the ground. Yes he was on top of a pile but he was stopped dead. You have to unpile sometime and you can't let the play extend until the guy finally has a chance to move again. Thems the rules, sorry Stan The Cardinal was not screwed.

how can it be clear-cut as some said above, there are tons of one loss teams.....and a few great 2 loss team. Playoffs need to be expanded period.

Obviously the Ohio State doesn't even fgure in, but Oregon????? Oregon lost to Stan at home?

Mentioning KSU in the conversation alone voids all you have said.

Only if you say because they are the only undefeated team not on probation.
Let's review NDs season
• Only beat weak-arse BYU 17-14 (BYU not ranked and is 7-5 and no wins against ranked teams. Of the 7 wins, five were to teams with losing records and a 6-6 team)
• Need a MISSED FIELD GOAL in OT by unranked Pitt (which sports a 5-6 mark that includes a loss to Youngstown State)
• Has the easiest schedule of any team ranked No. 1 in past 10 years
• Replays show Irish should have lost to Stanford - if you wartched any of the post game shows every analyst said refs screwed up the (non) TD call.
• Only beat weak-arse Purdue by three points. Same Purdue that almost lost to Indiana this past weekend.
• Almost got beat by a backup QB in USC game.
Yeah, that's my idea of a No 1-ranked team :wacko:

Agree with Top! The 8 team playoff pretty much guarantees the 2 best teams are in the picture, for the NCG. No more than 2 teams from any conference are eligable... eliminates the SEC scenario.

Not very sure the 2 best teams will be in the picture for this year's 2 team playoff.
