Gordon Gee: Big10 looking at going to 16 or 20

In November, the league announced the addition of Maryland from the Atlantic Coast Conference and Rutgers from the Big East.

It doesn’t appear that the Big Ten is necessarily content to stay at 14 members. According to the minutes of the Dec. 5 Athletic Council meeting obtained by the Dispatch, Gee said “there has been ongoing discussion” about expansion and “believes there is movement towards three or four super conferences that are made up of 16-20 teams.”

When a student member of the Athletic Council asked Gee what direction the Big Ten might take, Gee said “there are opportunities to move further south in the (E)ast and possibly a couple of Midwest universities.”

He did not specify any potential targets but said they will make sure any new school has “like-minded academic integrity.”

Yeah, it's Bowtie, so I'm taking this with a grain of salt. And the information is slightly out of date.

Still, looks like talks are ongoing. Anyone else think that one of those "Midwest universities" could be Kansas?

DeLoser and his bfb Bowlsby are screwing us over with half-measures and delay tactics until DeLoser can figure out to conquer another conference. The ACC alliance is just the latest scam to appear to be doing something without really securing the Big 12's future. I guess DeLoser isn't happy with conquering another conference-he wants to make sure he doesn't leave any survivors along the way.

We really should have never left CUSA.

20 team conferences? I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Wouldn't that be special, whole another 10 teams in your conference you would never or rarely play.

Gee is on crack IMO

I hope TCU has learned it's lesson from the SWC days and trusts noone, at he same time making good relationships in the major conferences, and having a plan if things go haywire. I would hate for everything to be blown up and TCU having to go back to the MWC, Big East, or CUSA because they weren't prepared and just believed UT and others about the future 100%. GoR is secure, but I wouldn't look past them trying to pull a majority of Big 12 out to break the conference or somehow find some loophole in the agreement. Also if the GoR contract does stand, 13 years isn't that long either it goes by quick.

Not until the BigEast invitation, I agree.

I'd like to know how joining the MWC did anything to hurt TCU football...

IMO, we benefited greatly from being in a conference with Utah and BYU as opposed to staying in one with UH, Tulsa, UCF and East Carolina, who have been their best teams the last 5 or 6 years.

Zero BCS bowls, zero Top 10's and only one Top 15 finish from that group.

Yet we were able to go to 2 BCS bowls and finish in the Top 10 four of the last 6 years (Top 15 in 5 of the last 6). Not to mention that Utah won a BCS bowl, finished #2 in the polls, etc. BYU had three Top 15 finishes while we were in a conference with them.

It wasn't even close.

+1. And to think of all the people whining back in the day that we should have stayed in CUSA. MWC was the right move at the time and looking back it was clearly the right move now.

Translation - We will add more teams - Anyone who can get us more money

If the B12 implodes, we are in trouble.

PAC won't take us because of the "C" in TCU

B1G won't take us because we aren't AAU (and because they have their eye on bigger ACC prizes)

SEC won't take us because Aggy will block us (and because they have their eye on bigger ACC prizes)

ACC might be our only shot since they like smaller, private U's and will probably need some refills after the B1G and SEC get done with them.

Didn't say it hurt us (though I'm not sure we ever recovered our exit/entry fees). But the idea our conference hopping did anything to improve our standing as far as the BCS was concerned is just wishful thinking.

Nobody but us gave a rat's [Craig James] about who our conference mates were. Had we been undefeated in the WAC or CUSA the results would have been exactly the same. We were non-auto-qualifiers. Period.
