Thought I would share this. Looking for decent Big12 coverage I've come to appreciate the Barking Carnival. They're a UT blog, but have great overall analysis and avoid hyperbole. They also respect the hell out of the Frogs.

Here's their full breakdown of our win over UT, though if you dont feel like giving a Longhorn site traffic I've posted the highlights below:

"The Longhorns took 12 days of extra work after the ISU game to get worse as a football team. Meanwhile, TCU got better. Funny, that."

"TCU dominated a typically productive Longhorn offense on Turkey Day with coherent team defense, a perceptive scout of our tendencies, and the full exploitation of Longhorn player error. It was a clinic, really. Don't let Texas throw deep (the longest play from scrimmage went for 19 yards), tackle well, winnow down Horn tendencies into a narrow window, and then whip [Craig James] with a four man rush and 7 in coverage. 71 plays for 300 yards and 13 points doesn't quite cover the degree to which TCU's defensive staff felt comfortable with our offense on the field. TCU essentially stopped running their offense (such as it was) some time in the late 3rd quarter, content to run three times, burn a little clock, and then punt. I'm amused, but not surprised, to hear some of our coaches and fans try to spin that as clutch late-game defense from Texas. But I digress..."

"We can slice and dice this a million ways and find various units to blame. Our QB play was obviously the well spring. Basically, TCU came to play, opened up a lead, put us behind the chains, and forced into an offense that we're not very good at running."

"I'm more concerned with the fact that yet another Big 12 team (with plenty of flaws of their own) rolled into Austin with purpose, kicked our asses, thoroughly out-coached us, and showed what a program looks like vs. random assembly of athletes."

The frustration level seems to be peaking in Austin, these days.

And anyone who buys that "we've moved on from A&M" rationale needs to read the comments section's references to "Johnny Mugshot," et al.

I'm just afraid UT is going to do something smart, like "promote" Mack and hire a real coach.

"I’ve seen OU guys have mention OU has essentially seeded the top Texas guys to Mack. If you don’t have to worry about winning on the field to get the guys you want, then you don’t pass on that sense of urgency to your team.

I know we won, but my general feeling on prevent offense and prevent defense is that the only thing they prevent is the win.

Couldnt agree more.

Since we were in the prevent offense then why didnt we run the clock down more when we punted twice in the 4th. Both downs we punted with the clock running at the 18 second mark. We could have reduced the clock another 34 seconds just on those two plays.

Also worth mentioning that on Derpa McCoy's scoring drive, we went into prevent defense... The guy literally can't throw it further than 30 yards. I think our LB were out of range of McCoy's arm strength.

Great article. I particularly enjoyed this nugget....

A TCU spread offense that threw on around 60% of their downs coming in (add in sacks/scrambles) was able to transform themselves into 1995 Nebraska, running on 81% of their downs out of purely spread formations. Boykin, averaging 36 pass attempts per game in his previous four contests, threw it only 9 times. That's a complete imposition of will

Wouldn't it be neat if we beat them again next year and the year after and watched them place the target of (unnecessarily) jealous hatred formerly reserved for A&M squarely on the Frogs, shooing away annoying Red Raider and Baylor Bear gnats while tunnel-visioning on us? Love it. Needed that TG game for so many reasons.

Texas will never beat TCU again in my lifetime (inside joke, eh guerinrules? :laugh: )
