FORT WORTH: No. 56 TCU Women's Tennis tamed the Wildcats on Friday afternoon in a 4-0 sweep at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (8-4) won their eighth home match of the season and their first conference match of the year against the Wildcats (2-15). TCU improves to 1-2 in Big 12 play while the Wildcats drop to 0-5.
In doubles play, the Horned Frogs dropped just one game before taking a 1-0 lead. Mercedes Aristegui and Jade Otway swept the duo of Florentine Dekkers and Farhat Quamar 6-0.
Without a moment's notice, the No. 67 doubles team of Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai gave their team early momentum with their 6-1 victory.
Singles play started and finished with the Horned Frogs dominating the field. TCU did not drop a single set on their way to victory.
Junior Destinee Martins won her third match of the year on the No. 4 court, her seventh of the season overall. She defeated KSU's Manami Ukita (6-2, 6-1) for the second point of the afternoon for the Frogs.
Yu-Chin Tsai has led a stellar freshman campaign adding another singles win, but more importantly the third point of the match. She brought down Farat Quamar in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
With a 3-0 lead, the Horned Frogs turned to their captain for the final point of the match. Mercedes Aristegui finished off the Wildcats in a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Aristegui has won eight total singles matches so far this season on the No. 1 and No. 2 singles courts.
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker enjoyed the first of three matches from his squad.
"This is a big weekend with some great opportunities, and we needed this kind of start. Even though we lost two matches last weekend against 2 top 20 teams, we learned a lot and built belief that we are an elite team. I thought the ladies came out with great energy and determination and never looked back. Looking forward to continuing that energy tomorrow."
