GoFrogs: Women's Tennis Suffers First Loss

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Despite a 3-1 lead in the match, the TCU women's tennis team could not hold on as Texas A&M stormed back to take the final three singles matches and get the 4-3 victory on Monday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station.

The Horned Frogs (5-1) used a tiebreaker in doubles to get on the board first over the Aggies (7-0) in the match. Texas A&M got the win on court two, but Ellie Douglas and Aleksa Cveticanin responded with a 6-4 win of their own on court one. Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy capitalized in the tiebreaker on court three, 7-4, to put TCU in front to begin the match.

Douglas took the momentum into singles action as the freshman sprinted to a quick 6-2, 6-2 lead on court one to remain undefeated on the season. Fellow freshman Mercedes Aristegui moved to 6-0 in singles action with a straight-set victory of her own on court four. That would be it for the Frogs though, as Texas A&M was able to get the wins on the four other courts to steal the overall team victory.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"As always with 4-3 matches there are many things that are good and some things that need to improve. I thought Ellie (Douglas) really had a great composure and focus today in a rough crowd. It was nice to see her really quiet the crowd with her racquet and with dominant doubles and singles performances. Chloe (Hule) and Stevie (Kennedy) remained resilient to get the doubles point and I was happy to see them close that out after a few missed opportunities. From the beginning, I kind of felt like it was going to come down to Aleksa (Cveticanin). Aleksa has a great game to compete with anyone in the nation and when she is positive, mentally tough and committed to the details of her game plan, she won't lose too many matches. Her emotions and the crowd got the best of her today and we will need to help her develop a plan to handle that better in the future. We have a good opponent on Wednesday with Rice. They will be hungry to take it to us and we will learn from today and we will come through."
