FORT WORTH, Texas – A tough battle at indoor facility inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center did not end in the TCU women’s tennis team’s favor as No. 31 Kansas State came back to take a 4-3 victory on Friday night in Fort Worth.

The Horned Frogs (9-7, 0-1 Big 12) opened the match by scoring the doubles point against the Wildcats (12-4, 2-1 Big 12) as the pair of Donika Bashota and Alexis Pereira started with a 6-1 win on court one. Aleksa Cveticanin and Aleksandra Zenovka wrapped up the point by securing the 6-4 victory on court three.

In singles, TCU was able to grab the first set on four of the courts with Cveticanin pushing the score to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the top position. Kansas State regrouped and was able to storm back and take a 3-2 lead in the match with wins on courts five, three and two. After taking the opening set, Bashota rebounded from a second-set loss to take a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 on court four to even up the match at 3-3. Coming down to the final court, Alexis Pereira could not fight off the Kansas State comeback as Ines Mesquita claimed the final match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to get the victory for the Wildcats.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“Kansas State showed a lot of grit and never gave up and flipped the momentum on us. We were in total control and could've escaped with a 4-0 or 4-1 victory, but credit to their coaches and players for having a lot of passion and fight. For us, we don't have time to sulk or have a pity party. We have to get it done Sunday against a top 20 Kansas team. There's no other solution. We lost. It's not fun. Nobody enjoys it and feels good about it, but that is life. You have to get up, keep improving, keep grinding, keep trying to be your best and win the next practice and win the next match. I told the team after the match to get over it as quickly as possible and put your 100 percent focus on preparing for Kansas. That is what we are going to do.”
