GoFrogs: Womens Tennis Earns Sweep of WVU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women's tennis team continued its excellent conference play on Sunday as the Horned Frogs scored a 4-0 victory over West Virginia at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

With the win, TCU (9-4, 3-0) wins its third straight conference match to start Big 12 play for the third time in program history and first time since the 2014-15 season. The Frogs and the Mountaineers (8-5, 0-3 Big 12) had a battle in doubles with the teams splitting decisions on courts one and three. The No. 41 duo of Aleksa Cveticanin and Ellie Douglas cruised to their fifth straight victory with a 6-0 win at the top spot. Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy proved to be the clincher on court two as the duo broke to secure the 6-3 win and the doubles point.

TCU got off to a hot start in singles action and used dominant performances by three freshmen to finish off the team victory in a sweep. Mercedes Aristegui got singles win No. 14 of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court three while Kate Paulus followed with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking on court four. Fellow classmate Douglas sealed the win with her third straight victory as she scored the 6-2, 6-0 win at the top spot.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
"We are in a good spot right now and just need to keep building momentum. Kate (Paulus) and Mercedes (Aristegui) were not themselves on Friday in singles, nor in doubles today, but we had an honest conversation after doubles and they responded like they're capable of with very dominant wins. Ellie (Douglas) also reeled off 12 straight games herself toward a dominant win. The focus tennis requires to win a set 6-0 or 6-1 is incredibly high. So I'm proud those three girls were able to bring that focus and level. We are 3-0 in Big 12 play and only three other teams are undefeated. We want to keep building confidence for our next conference match against Texas Tech on Saturday with another focused win Wednesday against Dartmouth. Anyone can see from a lot of the results around the country lately that anyone can beat anyone. If we remain hungry and humble down the stretch, we are going to be extremely tough to deal with."
