Frogs Fall to BYU, 61-58, in San Diego
SAN DIEGO – Kianna Ray poured in a team-high 15 points on five 3-pointers but the TCU women's basketball team couldn't overcome being out-rebounded by nine on the offensive glass as BYU claimed a hard-fought 61-58 decision on Friday at Viejas Arena.

THE RUNDOWN
A slow start saw TCU trail after the first quarter, but the Frogs picked up the pace and shot 50.0 percent (7-14) in the second stanza to take a 35-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Horned Frogs then came out in the second half firing on all cylinders, hitting a trio of 3-pointers in the first two minutes of play. The 9-0 run gave TCU its largest lead of the game at 11 points, up 44-33.

BYU answered with a 14-2 run of its own to end the quarter, however, to grab a narrow, one-point advantage, 47-46, heading into the final frame.

The Cougars were able to push their lead up to four with 4:39 left in the game, before Ella Hellessey came off the bench to hit a big jumper and Lauren Heard followed with a layup to bring the contest back to a deadlock at 53-all.

Although BYU moved back up by four with 1:59 remaining, a TCU timeout set up another big shot by Heard, this one from beyond-the-arc to make it a one-point game. A rebound by Heard and a fastbreak layup by Jayde Woods then gave the Frogs their first and only lead of the fourth quarter, up 58-57.

That would be TCU's final bucket of the game though, and BYU closed out its victory with a go-ahead layup by Sara Hamson, a crucial steal and two free-throws to hand the Horned Frogs their first loss of the season.

STAT OF THE GAME
15 – Kianna Ray led TCU in scoring for the second consecutive game, hitting five 3-pointers to account for all 15 of her points. She hit a career-high six 3-pointers in the last game against SMU and has accounted for nearly half of the team's baskets from beyond-the-arc this season with 14 of the squad's 31 made 3-point field goals.

UP NEXT
TCU will conclude its stay in San Diego with a 7:15 PST/9:15 CST matchup against host San Diego State on Saturday at Viejas Arena.
