TCU Set for UTSA Wednesday Night
Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from the DMC.
FORT WORTH, Texas - Fresh off its victory over Houston, TCU will continue home action Wednesday when it hosts UTSA at 7:00 p.m. The duel between the two Texas schools will be shown live on Fox Sports Southwest + with Chuck LaMendola (Play-By-Play) and former Horned Frog great Janice Dziuk (Color) calling the action live.
The Frogs and Roadrunners will battle for only the fifth time in program history Wednesday. TCU has never lost to UTSA and will be going for its fourth-straight victory over the Roadrunners at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Opponent
UTSA comes into Wednesday having recorded a 5-3 overall record after dropping a heartbreaking 61-60 overtime setback to San Francisco Sunday night. Senior Simone Young paced the Roadrunners with 14 points on 5-of-15 from the floor, while sophomore Kamra King and senior Miki Turner added 13 and 10, respectively.
The Roadrunners are 0-2 on the road this season after dropping contests to Wichita State and Houston. Individually, King has paced UTSA so far this year, averaging 9.3 points per game, while grabbing 2.9 boards. Young has also had a solid early season campaign, recording 7.8 points per contest and 4.1 rebounds.
The Series
When TCU takes on UTSA Wednesday night it will mark the fifth meeting between the two programs. The Horned Frogs currently own a 4-0 lead in the series and will be taking on the Roadrunners for only the fourth time at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Overall, the Frogs have outscored UT San Antonio by a combined score of 299-207 in their previous four meetings, including a 65-30 downing last year.
The Swat Team
In TCU's three victories this season, a common theme has come across the box score. The Frogs have turned away opponents at the rim, out-blocking the opposition in the three games, 15-6. TCU currently ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 13 in the NCAA in blocked shots. Individually, Latricia Lovings in the three games is averaging almost four blocks a contest. The junior ranks No. 2 in the NCAA in blocks.
Making Opponents Pay At The Line
In TCU's three victories this season, the Frogs have shot over 75 percent from the charity stripe, combining to go 51-of-67 (.761) from the line. In the last two outings, TCU has been exceptional, going 25-of-32 (.781). Individually, Natalie Ventress has gone 22-of-26 from the line during the three victories and has gotten to line at least seven times in all three games. Ventress had hit 22-straight from the charity stripe before missing in the second half against Houston.
Medley Honored By Big 12
Freshman Zahna Medley was honored Monday as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week. Medley averaged 17 points and 4.0 rebounds in TCU's wins over SMU and Houston last week. She hit 9-of-14 field goals, including 9-of-12 from behind the arc for a career-high 27 points against SMU. She tied the school record for most three-pointers made in a game and set the TCU freshman mark. The performance also tied for fourth-most in a game in Big 12 history. She added seven points, three rebounds and two assists versus Houston. For the week, Medley hit .423 (11-of-26) from the field and .588 (10-of-17) from the three-point line.
A Closer Look At UTSA Last Year
TCU held UTSA to only 30 points last season, which is the fourth-fewest points scored by an opponent in school history. The Frogs also limited the Roadrunners to only 13.3 percent from the floor, which is the second lowest field goal percentage in school history by an opponent. In all, UTSA made only eight buckets the entire night, which is the lowest in a game since Texas Southern collected only six in 2002.

Freshman Zahna Medley had a game for the ages, scorching SMU for 27 points. During the game, the freshman hit nine three's on only 12 attempts, which helped rewrite both the TCU and Big 12 record books. Below is a listing of the Illinois native's accomplishments against the Mustangs.
An Inside Look At Medley's Nine Triples:
• Medley tied the program record with nine triples by Amy Sutton Porter against Air Force in 1999.
• Medley tied the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum record of nine three's by Sutton Porter.
• Medley broke Jill Suttons' previous all-time freshman record for three's in a single-game.
• Medley's nine three's ranks tied for the fourth-best mark all-time in Big 12 history.
Keeping Opponents Under 60
The Frogs held Central Florida and Houston under 60 points, marking the 34th time in the last three years TCU has held an opponent under 60. The Frogs are a remarkable 30-4 the last three years when an opponent has scored less than 60 points. The last time TCU lost when holding an opponent under 60 was last February in a 55-54 setback at UNLV.
Last Time Out
TCU went on an 11-2 run midway through the second half and never looked back, downing Houston at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, 60-51.
On a day where the Horned Frogs bench did majority of the damage, outscoring the Cougars, 20-9, the Purple and White used some timely rebounds and all-around hustle to defeat the fellow Texas school for a fifth-straight time. With the win, TCU snapped Houston's four-game winning streak and improved to 3-2 on the young season, while the Cougars dropped to 4-5.
Natalie Ventress led all scorers with 17 points, while grabbing a career-high nine boards. Freshman Veja Hamilton had a banner day and was the only other Frog in double-figures with a career-high 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. The Spring native also snagged five boards.
Porsche Landry who netted 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor led Houston for a most of Sunday's contest. Marche' Amerson was also in double-figures with 12 points.
