Medley erupts for 29 points in win

Stats

BOULDER, Colo. - The TCU women's basketball team used a complete effort en route to an 82-68 victory over Missouri State on Saturday evening in the second contest of the OMNI Classic at the Coors Events Center.

Junior guard Zahna Medley bounced back from a tough outing on Friday with a season-best 29 points off a 10-of-13 effort from the field, including a 5-of-7 mark from 3-point range. Medley matched her previous career highs in field goals and assists (5).

Eight Horned Frogs scored at least eight points while TCU totaled 18 assists and tallied 24 points off of 24 Missouri State turnovers.
Senior guard Donielle Breaux also reached double figures for the fourth time in six games with 17 points while matching a career best with eight rebounds.

Fellow senior Chelsea Prince swarmed the Lady Bears on the defensive end, matching a career high with seven steals to go with five rebounds and four assists.

Medley connected on the first of five 3-pointers at the 10:51 mark of the first half to give TCU an early lead back while sparking an eventual 16-2 run.

Medley would drain another trifecta during the run and capped it with a floater in the paint over an MSU defender as TCU pulled out to a 27-15 advantage with 7:05 left in the first half.

The Lady Bears answered with an 8-0 run to trim the TCU lead to four, but Prince would give the Frogs a cushion with back-to-back steals that led to points for Medley. The Horned Frogs closed the opening half when sophomore forward Jada Butts sank a long jumper at the buzzer for a 37-28 advantage.

The Frogs opened the second half with their fourth bucket from downtown when Medley found Breaux open at the top of the key to push the lead to 40-28.

TCU's defense fueled a quick 6-0 run with back-to-back steals for a 14-point advantage, and Medley and Breaux would strike with back-to-back long-range buckets with under 10 minutes to play for an 18-point cushion.

The Frogs tied an OMNI Classic tournament record, now in its 28th year, with 19 3-pointers in the two combined contests. TCU shot 42 percent from the field on Saturday, including a 9-of-21 effort from distance.

TCU returns home to play host to No. 7 Texas A&M at 1 p.m., CST on Sunday at the University Recreation Center. Tickets will be available on game day on a walk-up basis.
