Horned Frogs Stay Perfect in Big 12 Play

TCU won five of six singles matches

Box Score

FORT WORTH - TCU's women's tennis team kept its conference-winning streak alive Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Kansas State at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The No. 35-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 15-2 on the year and 4-0 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats, ranked 48th, slipped to 7-7 and 1-3. Dating back to last season, TCU has won its last 11 conference matches.

"The doubles was tough today, but Kansas State played really well," TCU coach Dave Borelli said. "I give them a lot of credit. We kept our cool and focused on getting the job done in singles. I was really pleased with everyone's play. Livvy let down a little bit after we clinched the match and let the girl back in. For Stefanie, that's a great win. To beat a Kansas State team by that score is good, because they are solid and well coached."

K-State opened the match with a 1-0 lead after grabbing wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. After the Wildcats won at No. 2, Gabi Barbosa and Monika Sirilova were 8-6 winners over Carmen Borau Ramos and Ana Gomez on the third doubles court.

At No. 1, TCU's Olivia Smith and Stefanie Tan, playing together for the first time this season due to an injury to Millie Nichols, battled K-State's 37th-ranked tandem of Karla Bonacic and Petra Niedermayerova the whole way, but fell 9-7 to give KSU a 1-0 lead.

Kelsey Sundaram got the Frogs on the board for the first time with her 7-5, 6-2 dismissal of Gomez Aleman at No. 6 singles. It was the senior from Chennai, India's second Big 12 win of the season.

Sirilova extended her winning streak to eight matches and upped her Big 12 mark to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the expense of Borau Ramos at No. 5 singles. Her win gave TCU its first lead of the day at 2-1.

Following Sirilova's win, Simona Parajova continued the Frog rally with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Kubickova. The Zvolen, Slovakia, native is 4-0 in the Big 12 and 13-4 overall this spring.

Federica Denti clinched the match for TCU when she took care of Amina St. Hall, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 singles. Denti, a senior from Bellano, Italy, picked up her first Big 12 win.

No. 71-ranked Stefanie Tan capped off the Frog onslaught with her biggest win of the season, dropping the 11th-ranked Niedermayerova, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 on the top singles court. It was Tan's fifth win this season over a ranked opponent and first of her career over a top-15 foe.

K-State picked up its lone singles win at No. 2 after the match was clinched. TCU returns to action Sunday when it hosts Kansas. First serve is set for 10 a.m. from the Friedman Tennis Center.
