TCU Falls at No. 30 Oklahoma State
The Horned Frogs pick up two singles wins in their first Big 12 loss this season.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 49 TCU women’s tennis team dropped its first Big 12 match of the season, as the team fell to No. 30 Oklahoma State, 5-2, in Stillwater on Friday night.

The Horned Frogs (8-8, 1-1 Big 12) were able to notch two singles wins in the match, but the Cowgirls (7-5, 1-0 Big 12) proved to be too much after winning the doubles point and three straight singles matches to claim the victory.

The match began with No. 37 Victoriya Lushkova and Kanyapat Narattana of Oklahoma State taking the first doubles win over Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan on court one, 8-4. Tatum Nowlin and Sofiko Kadzhaya battled it out on court two, but ultimately fell to Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez, 8-5, as the Cowgirls picked up the doubles point.

Simona Parajova and Monika Sirilova were even at 7-7 in their match on court three with Katarina Adamovic and Karyn Guttomsen before the match was called.

Oklahoma State quickly clinched the victory in the match with straight set wins on courts one, six and three, but even with the match out of reach, TCU did not back down.

Sirilova dropped her first set to Tur Mari 6-4 on court five, but rebounded to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 to complete the comeback and win her second match in a row in conference play.

Kadzhaya won a closely contested first set at No. 4 singles, by winning a tiebreaker 10-8. The freshman carried the momentum into the second set and also won her second conference match in a row with a straight set victory over Adamovic.

Parajova dropped her first match since Nov. 8, 2013 when the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week fell in a three-set battle with Megan McCray, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 10-7. The junior still leads the team with an 11-1 record at No. 2 singles.

TCU will continue its Big 12 road trip by traveling to No. 17 Oklahoma to take on the Sooners at noon on Sunday, March 23 at the Headington Family Tennis Center. Live results for the match against Oklahoma can be found at SoonerSports.com.
