TCU Blows Away the Cyclones
The Horned Frogs won their second conference match this season with the 5-2 victory.

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – A combined team effort led the No. 57 TCU women’s tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Iowa State on Friday in Ames, Iowa.

The Horned Frogs (9-9, 2-2 Big 12) dropped the doubles point to the Cyclones (8-10, 0-5 Big 12) at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center, but rebounded to post four straight singles victories to record their second Big 12 conference win this season.

Stefanie Tan and Seda Arantekin picked up the first match in the doubles race with an 8-3 victory on court one, but Iowa State would come back to even it out with an 8-2 win on court three.

The deciding factor would be in the hands of Monika Sirilova and Simona Parajova on court two. The duo were down 7-4 in their match and rebounded to tie it up 7-7 and send it into a tiebreaker. The Iowa State pair of Meghan Cassens and Ana Gasparovic proved to have the advantage and won 7-3 in the tiebreaker to secure the doubles point for the Cyclones.

The loss of the doubles point did not faze the Frogs, as Sirilova put the first point up on the board for TCU in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court five over Emma Waites. Sirilova improves to 3-1 in conference play for TCU.

No. 59 Tan put the Frogs in the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court one over Pronina, while No. 121 Parajova followed that up with a straight-set victory on court two for a 3-1 lead for TCU.

Arantekin would finish off and clinch the match for the Frogs on court four with a 7-5, 6-0 shut down of Gasparovic. Kadzhaya continued to be undefeated in Big 12 play, with a three-set victory on court three. The freshman split the first two sets with Cassens and then picked up a 10-8 victory in the super tiebreaker third set.

TCU will continue its road trip by traveling to Morgantown, W.Va. to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday, March 30 at 9 a.m., CST.
