GoFrogs: Volleyball Stumbles at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Despite winning the opening set, the TCU volleyball team could not hold on as Kansas won the next three to take the 3-1 (28-30, 27-25, 25-21, 25-21) victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Horjesi Family Athletics Center in Lawrence, Kan.

The Horned Frogs (9-4, 1-1 Big 12) and the Jayhawks (8-4, 1-0 Big 12) battled hard from the very first point with two of the sets going extra points to decide a winner. TCU easily got to set point in the opening set before Kansas stormed back with five straight points to even up the battle. The Frogs continued to fight and capitalized off a Kansas serving error to finish off the set, 30-28, with a block from Katie Clark and Sarah Swanson.

Kansas did not falter and used strong starts to regain control of the match. TCU continued to fight for points and saw a set point again in the second set after an ace from Tori Dilfer. After a Jayhawk timeout, Kansas rattled off four of the final five points to steal the set and even up the match with TCU. The Jayhawks once again used big runs at the start of the final two sets to continue the momentum and secure the victory in four sets.

élan McCall led the team in kills for the 10th time in 2018 with 19 in the match and completed her seventh double-double with 12 digs. Anna Walshchipped in 12 kills with Swanson and Clark complimenting the offense with six kills each. On defense, Lexi MacLean and Dani Dennison each picked up 14 digs while Walsh led the team with 6.0 blocks.

7 – élan McCall picked up her seventh double-double of the season which is tied for the lead in the Big 12. The freshman has put down 5.00 kills per set and picked up 3.71 digs per set through the first two matches of Big 12 play.

-élan McCall scored her seventh double-double of the season with 19 kills and 12 digs
-The 19 kills by McCall marked the 13th straight match she has recorded double-digit kills. The streak is now tied for second all-time with Anna Vaughn who had 13 double-digit kill matches to start the 2005 season
-Anna Walsh finished with 12 kills to mark the 10th time this season recording double-digit kills
-Walsh also led TCU with 6.0 total blocks in the match to mark the third time this season record 5.0+ blocks in a match
-Sarah Swanson chipped in six kills for TCU and only one error for a .417 to mark the sixth time in 2018 hitting .300 or better in a match
-Dani Dennison and Lexi MacLean both led TCU defensively with 14 digs each in the match
-Dennison has now picked up double-digit digs in six match, while MacLean has done it a team-best nine times this season
-TCU recorded 15.5 blocks in the match to mark the third time this season scoring double-digit blocks and the first time in conference action
