GoFrogs: Volleyball Falls Short Against Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kansas -- TCU couldn't overcome Kansas Saturday afternoon inside the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, Kansas. The Horned Frogs battled hard on defense but KU still managed a 3-0 win: 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.

TCU NOTABLES:
  • Junior Dani Dennison made her first start at libero this season and responded with a season-best 21 digs, her first 20+ dig performance of 2019.
  • She averaged 7.00 digs/set in the match, becoming just the third Big 12 player this season to do so.
  • Freshman setter McKenzie Nichols finished with 30 assists, her third 30+ assist performance in her last four matches.
  • Waggle and Nalls each led the team with nine kills.
  • Waggle has now recorded at least nine kills in each of her last six matches.
  • Nalls continued her streak to 17 straight matches with at least eight kills.
  • Sophomore Katie Clark impressed in her first start at middle blocker, posting a team-best .385 hitting percentage on seven kills while also leading the team with four blocks.

Set 1 (KU, 25-18): TCU couldn't find its offensive rhythm in the opening set. A 6-1 TCU run tied the score, 10-10 early on but the bounces wouldn't go TCU's way for the remainder of the set and KU walked away with a 1-0 set lead. Waggle led the team with four kills on .667 hitting.

Set 2 (KU, 25-21): The second set was a much more competitive affair. TCU jumped out to a 7-4 lead off a pair of kills from both Swanson and Nalls but Kansas bounced back to tie the match at 7-7. In all there were 10 ties in the set as momentum swayed from one bench to the other. The last run came from KU unfortunately as the Jayhawks won the final the final three points to take the set. Nalls led the team with four kills. Dennison was fantastic in the back row, posting a remarkable eight digs.

Set 3 (KU, 25-19): After TCU claimed a 5-3 lead off kills from Nalls, Swanson and Clark, the Jayhawks would claim 10 of the next 14 points to go up, 13-9. Kansas managed the game from there, finishing the set with a six-point advantage. Dennison added six digs to bring her match total to 21.

UP NEXT:
TCU returns to The Rickel for the annual Pink Out match. The Horned Frogs will host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Well, I know you can't blame th AD, but it really does stink when most all your sports are losing. Most schools they have some sports that are losing and some that are winning championships, and then others in between. Seems like besides rifle TCU teams are not getting Big 12 championships. Going to be real important for TCU to be winning in between 2021-2024....when SEC, Pac-12, Big 12, and Big 10 are negotiating new TV deals. I dont know if anything will happen but TCU needs to be winning all the same.
