FORT WORTH -- TCU volleyball showed a spirited effort on Saturday night inside Schollmaier Arena but ultimately came up short against Iowa State, in five sets (17-25, 25-16, 25-23, 26-28, 5-15). HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (ISU, 25-17): The Horned Frogs got off to a blistering start, getting five kills on their first seven swings to go ahead, 7-2. Manyang delivered two kills along with three from Raiola in the early run. But the Cyclones managed to turn the tide, rattling off an 8-3 run to tie the score, 10-10. The lead changed hands until a 5-0 ISU run put the visitors in front, 19-14, a lead they'd hold until the end of the set. Raiola and Myers paced the Horned Frogs with four kills each. Katie Clark earned three kills on four swings as well.

Set 2 (TCU, 25-16): For the second night in a row, TCU responded with a vengeance in the second set. The Horned Frogs delivered the highest hitting percentage for a single set this year (.421) and the second most kills recorded in a set this season (18) to comfortably put away the Cyclones. Raiola led the way on offense with five kills on .385 hitting but it was Nichols who iced away the set with her second kill to clinch the win. Dennison was her usual self in the back row, finishing with six digs. The nine-point set victory was the largest margin of victory in a set this season.

Set 3 (TCU, 25-23): The Horned Frogs continued to spread the ball around well in the third set, with five different players registering multiple kills. The set was a back-and-forth affair with 16 ties and seven lead changes throughout. The difference would come from the service line as TCU recorded four aces without allowing any from ISU. Baker led the charge with a pair of aces before Dani Dennison clinched the set with an ace on the first set-point. Raiola and Nalls led the Horned Frogs with three kills each while Georgiades and Dennison paced the back row with four digs apiece.

Set 4 (ISU, 28-26): The fourth set picked up right where the third left off with both teams throwing everything they had at each other. The fourth set saw 11 ties and five lead changes as ISU jumped out to a 5-2 lead only for TCU to chip away at the lead until a 15-15 tie. The Horned Frogs led 20-18 before ISU punched back for a 24-22 advantage. Facing two set points, TCU tied the score at 24-24 off a service error and a block from Manyang and Clark. ISU fought off a match point before finally taking the set, 28-26. Once again five Horned Frogs registered multiple kills, led by four from Manyang. Clark had her best defensive set of the season, registering four blocks, while Dennison notched a team-best seven digs.

Set 5 (ISU, 15-5): The fifth set started out close, with the Cyclones leading just 5-4. But a 10-1 run finished off the match, in favor of the visitors.

UP NEXT:
The Horned Frogs will wait for the Big 12 Conference to approve plans for spring volleyball. TCU has three series to make up from this fall, including home matches against Texas and Kansas.
