GoFrogs: Ugen Finishes Fifth in London

FORT WORTH – Former NCAA national champion and TCU track and field alum Lorraine Ugen competed in the International Association Athletics Federation World Championships in London on Friday. Competing in the long jump, Ugen reached the finals where she finished fifth.

In the qualifying rounds, Ugen posted the highest mark in her group and third highest in the entire field, reaching 6.63m. She trailed only Darya Klishina of Russia and Tianna Bartolett of the United States, who reached 6.66m and 6.64m respectively.

In the finals, Ugen fouled in four of her six attempts, but recorded a 6.72m jump on her third attempt. Brittney Reese of the United States won the event with a jump of 7.02m.

Ugen finished fifth in last year’s IAAF World Championships in Beijing, where she jumped 6.85m.

Fellow TCU alum Ramone Bailey also competed in the IAAF World Championships, representing Jamaica in the long jump. Bailey reached 7.76m in the qualifying rounds, but did not qualify for the finals.
