NORMAN, Okla.– It only took one hour and 35 minutes for the No. 4 TCU men’s tennis team to complete its dominant performance in the Big 12 this season as they claimed the 2017 Big 12 Tournament title for the second consecutive season with a 4-0 sweep of No. 41 Texas Tech on Saturday morning at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

The Horned Frogs (19-4) became the first team since 2009 to claim back-to-back regular season and conference titles as the team picked up its 14th straight victory this season. The No. 1 ranked singles player in the country, Cameron Norrie was named Most Outstanding Player for the second straight season as the junior becomes the only player in conference history to earn the honor in consecutive tournaments. Norrie finishes his TCU career with an 11-0 record in the three Big 12 tournaments he has participated in with a 6-0 mark in singles and 5-0 mark in doubles.

The match was all about the Frogs from the very beginning as TCU jumped out to early breaks on all three courts in doubles against the Red Raiders (13-15). The No. 33 pair of Jerry Lopez and Reese Stalder were the first off the court with a dominant 6-1 victory over the No. 13 pair of Connor Curry and Bjorn Thomson. Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson would finish it out on court three as the duo held serve for the 6-2 win to give TCU the doubles point.

The Frogs quickly got four first sets to kick-off singles action with Johnson moving to 5-0 in spring play with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five. With only two points needed, Norrie and Stalder were both at match points simultaneously with Stalder coming off first with a 6-0, 6-1 win at court one before Norrie clinched it with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court one.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
“There’s a lot to be proud of. The guys had to overcome a lot to be here. It’s such a tough league. It just shows you that the team that was supposed to be ranked a lot lower than the rest is in the finals. Very proud as the head coach of the Frogs. Very proud to be Big 12 champs. First of all, I’d like to congratulate Texas Tech. What a fun run. Hate to be the one to end such a Cinderella run. So much credit to those guys. Really nice group of guys there that are so competitive and so gritty. They deserve a lot of credit for that.”
