Track Wraps Successful First Day in College Station​

Frogs earn seven top-five finishes at 44 Farms Team Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TCU track and field opened competition on Friday night at the 44 Farms Team Invitational, picked up seven individual top-five finishes.

On the track, senior Iyana Gray got things started with a strong 200m. Running the race for the first time this season, she posted a top-25 time in the country in 22.99 to finish fourth overall in the field of 66 athletes.

A few events later in the 400m hurdles, Tia Williams notched a season-best 57.56 to finish second with freshman Laila Smith broke a minute for the first time in her young career, turning in a 59.96. On the men's side, Jayden Douglasfinished fifth overall with a time of 51.04. He has placed inside the top five in the event all three times he's run the race this outdoor season.

Junior Mohammed Kowa led the charge in the men's 800m race, finishing fifth. He was one of three Frogs to post a season best time joined by Gianni Henry and Clay Macdonald.

TCU wrapped up the evening on the track with the 5000m. Gabby Martincrossed the finish line ninth for the women in 17:33.08. On the men's side, Stone Burke and Tate Underwood raced to a photo finish with 0.1 seconds separating the teammates. Both running personal best times, Burke and Underwood rank No. 9 and 10 in the TCU record books, respectively.

In the field, Smith added another personal best to her tally in the long jump. The talented freshman leaped 5.92m (19-5¼) to finish 10th overall.

Fellow freshman Javelin thrower Preston Kuznof also secured a top-five finish. His best throw traveled 69.77m.

The Frogs are back for the final day of the meet on Saturday, April 12. Action begins with the men's pole vault invite at 4 p.m. CT and racing on the track starts at 6 p.m. with the 4x100m relays.
