GoFrogs: Frogs Begin 2021 Campaign in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — TCU men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Aggie Invitational to open the 2021 season.

60 meters
TCU went one-two in the 60m. Jais Smith clocked a 6.73 in his Horned Frog debut with TJ Brock following with a 6.76. Entering the weekend, Smith's time ties the No. 13 time in the nation.

Tinotenda Matiyenga grabbed the top mark in prelims (6.75) but opted not to compete in finals.

200 meters
Kundai Maguranyanga ran a personal-best 20.31 in the 200m despite stumbling out of his starting block. The Drake transfer finished second in the race. Maguranyanga was the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Athlete for outdoor.

Freshman Dennis Smith also ran a career best time (21.39), placing fourth.

High Jump
Standout Sophomore Jill Johnson tied the second highest mark in the high jump (1.71m). She decided not to continue after clearing that height after aggravating her left knee. Johnson's freshman season featured a silver medal at the 2020 Big 12 Indoor Championships and a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships before being cut short due to COVID-19.

Welcome Back
Brooklin Klopf returned to competition for the first time since the 2019 Big 12 Outdoor Championship. The senior finished seventh in shot put with a mark of 13.28m (43-7). Her personal best in the event is 14.83 (48-6).

Director of Track and Field Darryl Anderson's Thoughts
At the end of the day, we got in and out of here healthy," Director of Track and Field Darryl Anderson said. "That's the objective for every first meet, to get in and get out healthy. I thought we had a good meet. The men ran really well. We had some good things happen and some good times for the first meet of the season. On the women's side, I thought Jill was jumping well and Mariana Martinez competed really well in the mile and 3000m."

"Now we move forward with a short week coming up," Anderson said. "We're off to Texas Tech for our first two-day meet of the year."
