FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's basketball team was dialed in from long range early and often and rode the hot shooting to a 76-67 win over SMU on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (3-0) hit its first nine 3-pointers, just two shy of an NCAA record, on its way to making 15 3-pointers on the night, which tied for the second most in program history. AJ Alix led the way for TCU with 20 points, including 5-of-8 from deep.Jada Butts added 14 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists.

Jordan Moore scored in double figures for the third straight time to start the season, and also posted her first career double-double with 13 points, on 6-of-9 shooting, and 11 rebounds.

The Rundown
Alix connected on a 3-pointer on TCU's first possession of the game, and that set the ball rolling. The Frogs hit 6-of-6 in the first quarter to take a 30-22 lead, then went on to make three more without a miss for a 9-of-9 start. The nine consecutive makes fell two shy of tying an NCAA record, and record that Frogs hold from when they hit 11 straight 3-pointers against Lamar in 1996.

The ninth straight deep ball put the Frogs up by 14 points, 39-25, but SMU used an 18-5 run to cut the lead to one points, 44-43. Butts got a second-chance bucket on TCU's final possession to give the Frogs' a 46-43 halftime advantage.

SMU shot nearly 60 percent in the first half to counteract TCU's 10-of-13 effort from deep.

However, as has been the case in each of its first two games, TCU's defense in the third quarter was excellent as the Frogs held the Mustangs to 10 points and 5-of-17 shooting in the third quarter.

TCU shot an identical 5-of-17 mark in the fourth quarter, but held SMU to 4-of-11 and led by as many as 15 points, 72-57, with 5:33 to go. The Frogs scored just four points over the game's final five minutes, but played well enough on the defensive end of the floor to hold on.

Overall, the Frogs hit 15-of-25 from deep with the 15 makes tying for the second most in program history, two shy of the school record of 17 which was set in a four-overtime game against East Carolina in 2004.

The Frogs committed just 11 turnovers and recorded 22 assists, continuing a trend that had the Frogs first in the NCAA in assist-turnover ratio entering Sunday's game. SMU outrebounded TCU, 39-36, but the Frogs held an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass against an SMU team that posted 19 and 15 rebounds in wins over Texas State and Kansas, respectively, to start the season.

Stat of the Game
9 -- TCU made its first nine 3-pointers of the game, falling two shy of an NCAA record 11 consecutive made 3-pointers. The record of 11 is actually held by TCU who did so in a 1996 game against Lamar.

Quote of the Game
Raegan Pebley on TCU's 3-point shooting --- "We've got great shooters, but what we need to have done first is we want the ball to hit the paint. I think some of those threes were because the ball hit the paint first, and you've got people with really good open looks. We've got a phrase in our program, 'It's not just a shot, we want a great shot.'"
