FORT WORTH, Texas -- Looking to build off a third-place finish in the Big 12 Conference, TCU opens play for the 2015-16 season on Sunday afternoon with an exhibition matchup against the Rams of Texas Wesleyan at the University Recreation Center on the campus of TCU. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. CT. Admission is free.

The team returns eight letterwinners, including two All-Conference selections from a year ago. Senior Zahna Medley, a two-time first team All-Conference selection, and senior Veja Hamilton, an honorable mention All-Conference selection, were the Horned Frogs' leading scorers a year ago - posting 15.6 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Medley earned preseason All-Conference honors again this season with Hamilton taking home an honorable mention selection.

It was a record-breaking season for first-year head coach Raegan Pebley and TCU in 2014-15.

Pebley became the first coach at TCU to reach the postseason in their inaugural season in Fort Worth and won 18 games - the most for a rookie head coach at TCU. She helped the squad reach the postseason for the 13th time in 15 seasons and secured the program's first postseason win since 2008 with a 85-80 win over Stephen F. Austin in the opening round of the Postseason Women's NIT.

TCU's defensive emphasis showed up in improved numbers on the offensive end. The Horned Frogs posted 69.6 points per contest in 2014-15, ranking them in the top 70 in the nation in scoring after finishing below 200 in the national standings in each of the previous four seasons. TCU's scoring improved by 6.4 points while the team's three-point percentage increased by three points and the team's free throw percentage increased to 76.3 points.

The Horned Frogs were picked to finish fifth in the league in 2015-16, but were just one vote behind the fourth place slot, which featured Iowa State. Baylor, Texas and Oklahoma are at the top of the preseason standings.

After being picked to finish seventh in the conference by the league's coaches in a preseason poll last year, the Horned Frogs finished in a tie for third in the Big 12 Conference, their best finish in three years as a league member. The Horned Frogs have finished higher in the standings in each of the last two seasons than the preseason coaches poll ranked the team.

Last season, TCU beat Texas Wesleyan 86-40 in an exhibition contest at the University Recreation Center. Medley led the Horned Frogs with 15 points and five assists, while senior guard Natalie Ventress and junior guard Alexia Standish each added 14 points for TCU, which shot 48 percent from the field for the game. Defensively, the Frogs held the Rams to just 12 percent shooting from the field in the first half while outrebounding the Rams 27-18 in building the 47-14 lead at the break. TCU also forced 16 TWU turnovers and recorded seven steals.

The Horned Frogs will play the opening portion of their 2015-16 schedule at the University Recreation Center as renovations to the new Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena are completed. The opening event in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena will be the Dec. 19 Fall Commencement. On the following day, Dec. 20, the TCU men's and women's basketball programs will make their Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena debut with a doubleheader. The men face Abilene Christian at 1 p.m., while the women will host Southern Utah at 3:30 p.m.

TCU spent the 2014-15 season playing its home games in the University Recreation Center, providing a unique setting for TCU women's basketball last season with the Horned Frogs taking advantage of the small and loud venue. TCU went 15-3 and averaged 1,414 fans in 2014-15 at home, the figure represents a sold-out season. TCU overcame an eight-point deficit to win on five occasions during the 2014-15 season at the University Recreation Center.

Following the exhibition contest with Texas Wesleyan, the Horned Frogs will host Sam Houston State on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 in the University Recreation Center to begin the 2015-16 regular season.

QUEENS OF THE COMEBACK
TCU has shown a knack for coming from behind to win under head coach Raegan Pebley. TCU posted six wins last season after they overcame a deficit of eight points or more in the contest. The most notable came in a 86-84 win over Iowa State to help head coach Raegan Pebley record her first career win against a Big 12 opponents. TCU followed that win with another victory over Oklahoma State just three days later, erasing an eight-point deficit to register a 70-66 win.

WINS AWAY FROM HOME
TCU was a team that made major progress in 2014-15, but its one downfall was playing on the road. The Horned Frogs were 2-9 on the road and 3-11 away from home last season. Raegan Pebley's past success playing away from home at her previous stops bodes well for expected improvement away from home in the upcoming season. Her squads at Fresno State were a combined 22-14 away from home in two seasons, including a 12-7 mark in 2012-13 and a 10-7 mark in 2013-14.

FINISHING HIGHER
TCU will attempt to finish higher than anticipated in the Big 12 Conference yet again this season after achieving the feat in each of the last two seasons. The Horned Frogs were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference in a preseason survey of the league's coaches. It is the highest preseason rank for the Horned Frogs since joining the league prior to the 2012-13 season.

The Horned Frogs finished in a tie for third in the league last season after being picked to finish seventh in the league. In 2013-14, the Horned Frogs were picked to finish eighth in the preseason poll but finished the year seventh in the league standings. TCU was picked and finished 10th in the league in its inaugural Big 12 Conference season.

MOST WINS BY FIRST YEAR HEAD COACH
Head coach Raegan Pebley led TCU to 18 wins in her inaugural season in Fort Worth, marking the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history at TCU. It is a record she is familiar with as she tied a similar mark at Fresno State during the 2012-13 season when she led the Bulldogs to a 24-9 record and an appearance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

ONE OF THE NATION'S BEST HOME COURT ADVANTAGES
The Horned Frogs are 208-53 (.797) at home since the start of the 1999-2000 season.

Over the last two seasons, the Horned Frogs have posted a 28-7 mark at home as it has settled into its transition into the nation's toughest women's basketball league - the Big 12 Conference.
