FROGS BEAT TEXAS WESLEYAN 88-49 IN PRESEASON EXHIBITION GAME

FORT WORTH, Texas TCU hit 11 three-point field goals and four Frogs scored in double figures as TCU beat Texas Wesleyan 88-49 in a preseason exhibition game at the University Recreation Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior All-American candidate Zahna Medley had a team-high 19 points, hitting 5-of-8 three-point field goals in the contest, while adding five assists in just 21 minutes of play. The preseason All-Conference selection continued the strong pace that has made her one of the nations leading active scorers and among the top point performers in TCU history as she enters the regular season ranked sixth in the school record book in career points.

Fellow senior and newcomer Destynee Hives McCray added 11 points and eight rebounds in just 17 minutes. Hives-McCray is in her first season at TCU after transferring from SMU in the offseason.

Sophomore AJ Alix had 17 points and three steals to go along with seven assists and no turnovers while senior Veja Hamilton, preseason All-Conference honorable mention selection, had 16 points.

The Frogs used runs of 9-0 and 10-0 in the opening 10 minutes to separate themselves from Texas Wesleyan in the early going. TCU allowed its stingy defense and high-intensity pressure to set the tone early during the runs. For the game, the Frogs forced 17 turnovers that resulted in 23 TCU points.

TCU opened the second half on a 12-0 run and outscored the Rams 30-12 in the third quarter in building a 35-point lead entering the fourth quarter and coasted to the 39-point victory.

Onyesonam Nolisa had 24 points to lead the Rams.

STAT OF THE GAME
11- TCU continued its success from behind the three-point line that helped the team win 18 games a year ago by hitting 11-of-24 from behind the arc in the exhibition contest. It included 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range from Zahna Medley and 4-of-6 shooting from sophomore AJ Alix. Jada Butts and Caitlin Diaz also hit shots from downtown in the contest.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
Destynee (Hives-McCray) has that experience that the other newcomers dont have (yet), said head coach Raegan Pebley of her senior transfer. She understand pace of play, physicality and the mentality that you need to embrace. Hives-McCray averaged 9.9 points and was second on her team in scoring last season at SMU.

NOTES
· Sophomore AJ Alix had 17 points and seven assists in the game, which would have set new career highs in both categories for the Houston native.
· Six players made their TCU debuts in the game as Jordan Moore, Toree Thompson, Destynee Hives-McCray, Ola Akomolafe, Claire Ferguson and Hattie Lanfkord saw action in the game.
· The Frogs scored 88 points, which would have set a new Raegan Pebely era record had the game officially counted in the record books. The Frogs reached the 80-point mark just six times last season and posted a season-high 87 points against Houston Baptist on Nov. 14, 2014 in the season lid lifter last year.
· Pebley improved to 2-0 in exhibition games at TCU with the victory.
· Three players had at least five assists for the Frogs in the game as the team had assists on 23-of-35 field goals in the game. Alix, Medley and Jada Butts all reached the five assist mark in the game.
· One area of improvement that Pebley was seeking in the 2015-16 roster was rebounding from her guards. Medley snagged four rebounds while Thompson had seven rebounds in the game.

UP NEXT
TCU opens the 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 against Sam Houston State in the University Recreation Center as part of a doubleheader with the TCU mens basketball team. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
