FORT WORTH – Anthony Silva's home run to lead off the ninth provided the walk-off fireworks as TCU rallied to defeat Cincinnati 7-6 on Saturday afternoon. Chase Brunson homered twice in the game and drove in three.
The Rundown
For the second game in a row, the Horned Frogs used the power of the home run to complete a comeback victory. Anthony Silva launched a 1-2 pitch into the bullpen to lead off the bottom of the ninth to give the Frogs a 7-6 walk-off victory.
Nate Stern (2-1) on the mound held the fort with three shutout innings. He allowed just two base runners on an infield single and a walk to earn the win in relief. The two runners came in the ninth, but Jack Bell made a snag on a line drive at third to end the inning, setting up Silva's heroics.
Cincinnati and TCU traded home runs in the first. The Bearcats took the lead on a lead-off home run and Sawyer Strosnider tied the game with one out in the bottom of the inning.
In the second, the Bearcats batted around, scoring three times. A bases-loaded walk gave Cincinnati the lead. It was followed by a two-run single. Braeden Sloanlimited the damage, leaving the bases loaded.
TCU drew within one with solo runs in the second and fourth inning. Anthony Silva's sacrifice fly in the second made it 4-2. A solo home run from Chase Brunson in the fourth pulled the Frogs with one, 4-3.
Cincinnati took advantage of a two-out walk in the fifth. The walk was followed by a home run to give the Bearcats at three-run advantage, 6-3. The Frogs used the long ball to get the game back to level. Karson Bowen homered in the fifth and Brunson's second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the sixth, tied the game at six.
Caedmon Parker started and allowed four runs on five hits, walked four and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings. Sloan gave the Frogs 4 2/3 relief innings. He allowed a pair of runs on one hit, walked three and struck out five.
