TCU Opens 2012 Season in Nashville

Horned Frogs coming off second-best season in program history

TCU MATCH NOTES // BELMONT MATCH NOTES // TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

FORT WORTH - TCU's women's volleyball team opens the 2012 season at 4 p.m., CST, on Friday against Northern Colorado in the first match of the Belmont Invitational. Friday's meeting will be the first all-time between TCU and Northern Colorado.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 2011 campaign that saw them post a 25-7 record, good for the second-most wins in school history. Included in the 25 wins was a program-best 13-match winning streak to open the season.

Friday's match marks the beginning of the 18th season in TCU volleyball history and the 11th with Prentice Lewis at the helm. Under Lewis, the Frogs have posted all of the 20-win seasons (6) in program history and their lone appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

TCU returns eight letterwinners from its 2011 squad, including five starters.

TCU ALL-TIME VERSUS WEEKEND FOES
Of its three weekend opponents, TCU has faced only Belmont in its history. The Horned Frogs have never squared off with Alabama A&M or Northern Colorado.

*Aug. 30, 2002 - TCU 3, Belmont 0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-12)

*Aug. 30, 2008 - TCU 3, Belmont 1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-13)

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Under head coach Prentice Lewis, TCU has had a knack for opening the season with a victory. In the past 10 years, TCU is 7-3 in season openers, including a six-match winning streak. Winning the season opener has generally equated into a solid start to the season for the Frogs.

*Won 13-straight matches to open 2011, the best mark in school history.

*Opened 2009 at 13-3 after winning the season opener on their way to the NCAA tournament.

*Started 2008 on a nine-match winning streak, previously the best start in school history.

*Posted 10-1 marks in the first 11 matches of 2006 and 2007 after grabbing a win in the season opener.

TENNESSEE, TENNESSEE, AIN'T NO PLACE I'D RATHER BE
This weekend's matches mark only the third time that TCU has played in the state of Tennessee in the program's history. Previously, TCU notched wins at Memphis in 2002 and 2004. The two matches with Belmont were played in Jonesboro, Ark., and Fort Worth, respectively.

IT'S TOURNEY TIME
With the Big 12 not hosting a postseason volleyball tournament, TCU once again has four early-season tournaments on its schedule. Included in those four are the TCU Nike Invitational (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) and TCU Molten Invitational (Sept. 14-15).

*TCU posted a 9-0 record in its beginning of the year tournaments a year ago, including six wins away from the University Recreation Center.

*Only once in the past seven seasons has TCU gone to a tournament and left with more losses than wins. The Frogs went 1-2 at the TCU Nike Invitational in 2010.

*Over that seven-year stretch, the Horned Frogs have posted a 67-11 record in early-season tournament action.
