GoFrogs: TCU Upsets No. 17 Iowa State, 92-83
MES, Iowa – Freshman Kendric Davis scored a career-high 22 points to lead a hot-shooting TCU team to an upset at No. 17 Iowa State, 92-83, Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.
TCU (17-6, 5-5) led for all but eight minutes of the game to beat a ranked team on the road for the first time in 21 years. Desmond Bane, Kouat Noi and Kevin Samuel each scored 17 points and helped the Horned Frogs shoot 53.2 percent from the field.
TCU trailed 13-4 early on, but scored 10 unanswered to take its first lead of the game, 14-13 just over 10 minutes into the game. The run continued to 27-4 as the Frogs took a 31-17 lead with 5:37 left in the first half after Noi's second 3-pointer of the game. Noi finished 3-of-7 from deep, his 22nd straight game with a made 3-pointer.
The Cyclones (18-6, 7-4) closed the gap at the end of the half and the Frogs led 36-29 at the break.
TCU made 12 of its first 15 shots from the field in the second half to take a 63-47 lead with 11:35 to play. A layup by Bane gave the Frogs their largest lead of the game, 67-48 with 9:46 remaining. After a layup and made free throw by Marial Shayok, who led all players with 24 points, ISU got to within nine points, 75-66, with 3:26 to play, but never any closer. TCU shot 63.3 percent and scored 56 points in the second half, its highest total in a half this season.
