FORT WORTH – TCU scored early and often in a 14-1 rout of No. 22 Kansas Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Tommy LaPour struck out a career-high 11 in his fourth straight quality start. Jack Bell and Chase Brunson homer for the Horned Frogs. Sawyer Strosnider posted his fourth career four-hit game.
The Rundown
Tommy LaPour (5-2) was masterful once again in tossing seven innings. He allowed a run on three hits, walked three and struck out a career-high 11. The lone blemish on his line was a lead-off home run in the sixth. No Jayhawk baserunner besides the home run hitter reached third base.
The offense wasted little time getting going. Back-to-back triples from Karson Bowen and Sawyer Strosnider to start the first had the Frogs in front 1-0. Cole Cramer singled to make it a 2-0 ballgame after one.
TCU exploded for seven runs in the second to take a commanding 9-0 lead. With one out, seven straight Frogs reached and all scored. Nolan Traeger started the parade to the plate with a double and scored on Jack Bell's home run. With two in scoring position, Cramer dumped a single into right center for a 6-0 lead. Chase Brunson capped the scoring with a three-run blast.
A lead-off walk to Brunson in the fifth turned into TCU's 10th run of the game as he scored on a Traeger sacrifice fly.
After Kansas got on the board with a lead-off home run in the sixth, the Frogs responded with a two-spot in the bottom of the inning. RBIs from Strosnider and Cramer made it a 12-1 game. Two more runs in the seventh accounted for the final scored. Preston Gamster and Strosnider picked up the RBIs.
Cohen Fester retired all three batters he faced in the eighth and Carson Cormierstruck out the final three batters in the game after issuing a lead-off walk in the ninth.
