GoFrogs: TCU to Play in Diamond Head Classic

FORT WORTH
– TCU will return to Honolulu, Hawaii in the upcoming season for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Dec. 21-24.

The Horned Frogs, who won the event in 2018, will open the eight-team tournament with Old Dominion on Dec. 21. The semifinals will be held on Dec. 22 with the finals on Dec. 24. All games in the ESPN Events men's college basketball tournament will be at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The only meeting between Old Dominion and TCU resulted in a 67-62 win by the Monarchs on Nov. 25, 2004 in Fort Worth, part of the Corpus Christi Challenge.

Other teams in 14th edition of the Diamond Head Classic are Georgia Tech, Hawai'i, Nevada, Saint Mary's, Temple and UMass.

Jamie Dixon, who is entering his eighth season as TCU's head coach, has a long history with Hawaii. Dixon served as an assistant coach for the University of Hawai'i during the 1992-94 seasons and again from 1998-1999. Dixon also met his wife, Jacqueline, in the Rainbow State.

The Horned Frogs, who went 22-13 last season and 9-9 in the Big 12 Conference, are coming off back-to-back second round appearances in the NCAA Tournament. TCU finished the season ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll for the fourth time in program history, coming in at No. 22. The final ranking extended a program-best 15-straight weeks ranked in the top 25.
