GoFrogs: TCU Takes Series With 11-2 Win
MINNEAPOLIS – TCU picked up its second series win of the season with an 11-2 victory over Minnesota in the series finale Monday afternoon at US Bank Stadium. A six-run, sixth inning had the Horned Frogs firmly in control. Conner Shepherd homered and drove in three runs to lead the offense.
The Rundown
Russell Smith (1-0), Drew Hill, Austin Krob and Harrison Beethe dominated on the mound in helping TCU to the victory. Smith allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. The Hill-Krob-Beethe combo allowed just one base runner in their four innings of work.
Conner Shepherd got the scoring started for the Frogs with a two-out, solo home run. Phillip Sikes worked a walk and scored on a Porter Brown double for a 2-0 lead after two innings.
Three more two out runs came around in the third. With two on, Zach Humphreys doubled off the right field wall to drive in two and he scored on a Shepherd base hit for a 5-0 advantage.
Minnesota pulled within three, 5-2, with two out, solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
TCU broke the game open with six runs in the sixth inning. With runners on the corners, Austin Henry grounded out to drive in Brown. Hunter Wolfe singled home two runs with a base hit. Back-to-back doubles from Humphreys and Shepherd made it 11-2 to account for the final score.
