TCU Earns 1-1 Draw At Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - An entertaining match at Oklahoma ended in a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon. TCU got a goal from Michelle Prokof in the 31st minute to tie the game and Vittoria Arnold made five saves to help the Horned Frogs to the tie.
"Our kids battled hard and I'm proud of what they did for 110 minutes," said head coach Eric Bell. " We did all we could, our effort was fantastic. Now it's about fine-tuning and recognizing our opportunities when they are available. We have to figure out a way to win games and to stop playing catch-up by giving up the first goal."
A fairly evenly matched contest saw the shot attempts tied at 14 apiece, while the Sooners had a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal. TCU generated six corners to just four for Oklahoma. Emma Heckendorn led the Frogs with four shots in the match.
"I thought the tactics in the game were sound and gave us the ability to get a result," said Bell. "The kids executed the game-plan and gave us a chance to be successful, now we just need to figure out a way to get a result."
Oklahoma struck first in the 29th minute. The Sooners made a strong run down the right side. Shiloh Price worked around her defender and sent a perfect cross right to the head of Chelsea Jackson who didn't miss as she headed it past Arnold for the early lead.
TCU wasted little time getting the match tied at one just two minutes after the Sooners had taken the lead. Brittany Little found Prokof in space. She pushed her defender back and unleashed a high shot into the upper left corner from about 23 yards out to tie the game at one.
"Michelle has had an inconsistent start to the season, but she was on today," said Bell. "I'm happy for her to get a goal. We needed that for a lot of reasons."
The Frogs had chances to get the lead but the defensive line for Oklahoma forced wide shots. Allison Ganter had the best chance in the final 10 minutes of the half, but her shot missed just right of the goal.
TCU had the higher quality opportunities in the second half but couldn't connect on the go-ahead goal. After surviving an early push from the Sooners, TCU pushed the ball into its attacking zone. Madeline Hamm's shot in the 57th minute grazed off the post and out of danger.
Prokof was a wrecking ball on the field as she worked hard to generate opportunities. Her shot in the 68th minute sailed just over the crossbar. With three minutes left in regulation, she had another golden opportunity. Meghan Murphy's header deflected off the crossbar and right to Prokof. She looked to have a wide-open net, but her shot bounced off a teammate on the goal line and out of danger.
The first overtime was carried predominately by the Sooners. They got off a pair of shots, but both were blocked by Frog defenders.
Prokof had the second overtime's best opportunity. In the 108th minute, Eryn Spencer corralled a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box and fired off a rising shot that caught Prokof's head. Her redirection was saved by a leaping Kaitlyn Fahrner.
With the tie, TCU moves to 7-5-3 on the season and 0-2-3 in Big 12 play. The Frogs will return home for their final two home matches of the season. First up is a Friday night meeting with Texas.
