FORT WORTH – TCU dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to Kansas Friday night in its Big 12 home opener. McKenzie Oliver tied the game in the 47th minute, but a Jayhawk goal 12 minutes later stood up as the game-winner.
The Rundown
The first half saw Kansas control the majority of the play, while the second half favored the Horned Frogs. The Jayhawks, however, were able to score a goal in each half to take the victory.
Kansas struck in the 16th minute on a header inside the six-yard box. Lois Heuchan took the Tayler Estrada feed and headed it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Twelve minutes later, Courtney Hofer made a diving stop to her right on a header in tight to keep it a 1-0 game.
TCU came out on fire in the second half and wasted little time getting the equalizer. Emma Heckendorn crossed the ball over to Oliver at the top of the penalty box. Her turn-around shot was perfectly placed high over the leaping goalkeeper, tying the game at one in the 47th minute.
Kansas took advantage of its first real opportunity in the half, regaining the lead in the 59th minute. Jackie Georgoulis made a long run before feeding Katie McClure. Heuchan slipped through the defense and snuck the McClure feed into the near post for a 2-1 lead.
The Frogs went down swinging as they pushed hard to tie the game. A flurry of action in the 67th minute saw the Frogs produce four golden scoring opportunities. Jayhawk keeper Maddie Dobyns made three diving stops and was helped out by a defender on the fourth to keep the Kansas lead in tact.

“Congratulations to Kansas on a well-played game. They are a good team. I thought we competed very well and represented ourselves very well, especially in the second half. We created enough opportunities to at least equalize the game a second time in the second half, but we weren’t able to do it. The effort in the second half was very good, we just need to fix how we start the game and make sure we maintain a level of consistency throughout the game.”

“That’s soccer, that’s the way it goes. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don’t. It’s all about creating the chances. If you create enough, hopefully they will go in. We have to go back to the drawing board, keep doing what we’re doing, but do it better.”

“They were solid as they have been throughout the season. They need to step up a little bit. We can’t give up two goals in a game, especially a Big 12 game. It makes it really hard. ”
