Box Score | Notes

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU closed the non-conference portion of its schedule in style Saturday afternoon, crushing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, 69-38.

The Horned Frogs, who moved to 7-4 on the season, used relentless pressure on the glass to power past the Islanders, out-rebounding Texas A&M-CC, 49-28. The Frogs are now 5-0 this season when out-rebounding the opposition. In all, the Frogs recorded a 20-6 advantage in second chance points, while outscoring the Islanders off the bench, 35-15.

On a night where TCU jumped all over Texas A&M-CC early, the Frogs simply stormed out of the gates, shooting 40.3 percent from the field. Simply put, the Frogs went on a 16-3 run midway through the opening frame after Corpus Christi had pulled within three at the 12:15 mark and never looked back as that was as close the Islanders would get the rest of the night.

Freshman Kamy Cole scorched the Corpus Christi for a new career-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-11 from deep. Donielle Breaux also had a solid night with 10 points, while adding a game-high four assists and three steals.

Even more impressive though was the Frogs work on the glass as sophomore Latricia Lovings recorded a new career-high 17 rebounds, while freshman Veja Hamilton tied her previous career-high with 10 boards, including four on the offensive end. Lovings' 17 rebounds fell one shy of the seventh-best rebounding effort in a single-game in program history.

Texas A&M-CC, now 1-10 in non-conference action, was led by Jessica Jammer who posted 14 points and was the lone Islander in double-figures.

Texas A&M-CC opened the half scoring four-straight before Zahna Medley pushed the Frog lead back to 16 on a tough running three-point play inside the paint. A few moments later, Cole drained a three-pointer from the top of the key and the Frogs continued to roll, now up 42-23.

At the 14:42 mark of the second half, Natalie Ventress would push the Purple and White lead to 45-25, dropping in a trey ball from the right side of the court off an assist by Cole. The sophomore would continue her offensive prowess the very next trip, scoring a floater inside the paint.

On back-to-back trips halfway through the second half, Cole found Hamilton down low and then drained a three to give TCU a comfortable 52-25 advantage. Whitney Williams then got into the act, hitting a triple at the 11-minute mark.

A couple of three's down the stretch by Cole continued the Frog route as TCU won easily Saturday afternoon, bringing its all-time mark to 3-0 against Corpus Christi.

Breaux got the Frogs rolling right out of the gate, scoring a three from the left side of the court. On the very next possession, Medley ripped the nets for a three of her own and the Frogs were out and running. The Islanders would continue to battle though, scoring five-straight to pull within one at 6-5. Cole would end the Islander's 5-0 run, draining the Frogs third triple of the opening frame at the 15:55 mark of the first half.

With the score 11-8 in favor of the Purple and White, Breaux went back to work, driving the lane and connecting on a beautiful reverse layup halfway through the opening period. A few plays later, Ventress followed her own miss and powered home a layup to give TCU a 19-10 advantage at the 10-minute mark.

The Frogs would push their lead to 26-11 when Williams tickled the twine from deep with a little over seven minutes remaining in the opening period. The two teams would battle back and fourth down the stretch until the Frogs went on a 10-2 run to push their lead to 36-15 on a Lovings layup down low. The Purple and White took a 36-19 lead into the break.

TCU will take on No. 3 and defending NCAA Champion Baylor on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from the DMC.
