GoFrogs: TCU Beats Texas State, 76-71
FORT WORTH – A second half run helped TCU overcome a halftime deficit in a 76-71 win over Texas State Tuesday at Schollmaier Arena.

TCU (3-0) trailed by as many as six points late in the first half and by two points, 37-35, at halftime. The Horned Frogs quickly regained the lead with a Noah Reynolds layup two minutes into the second half. The margin stayed within five points until a 17-3 TCU run increased its lead to 68-54 with 5:45 remaining.

Texas State (2-1) stayed in the game with their ability to make free throws. The Bobcats finished 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) from the free throw line while the Horned Frogs were 15-of-32 (46.9 percent).

The Bobcat threat heightened with 1:32 to play when a Dylan Dawson 3-pointer brought Texas State to within four points, 72-68. TCU made just 4-of-9 from the free throw line for the remainder of the game, but it was enough to hold on for the five-point win.

Reynolds led TCU with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting and added five assists. Trazarien White had 16 points, which included a 2-of-3 effort from 3-point range. Frankie Collins scored all 13 of his points in the second half and added a team-high six assists. The starting backcourt duo of Collins and Reynolds went 12-of-15 from the field.

The Horned Frogs will hit the road for the first time this season with a game at Michigan on Friday at 5 p.m. CT on FS1.

The lack of fan support for non conference games is stunning. I had to miss last nights game, but I had someone in my seats. I was flipping between Baylor / Sam Houston (full) and Frogs / Texas State ( empty).

It's sad. Even the students don't show up.

But wait, I thought people said that if the team ever started winning, the fan support would take care of itself.

It will take a while to build a hoops fan culture, but it would be good to see the athletic department, admin and student leadership doing more to get fans in the gym in the early season. Things can be done--co-promotion with football tix (or women's hoops), sponsored giveaways, preview/review the Riff Ram video, photo ops with men's/women's players, giving bonus points to ticket holders whose tix are used. Basic minor-league baseball promo stuff should apply during football season when the hoops schedule features tune-up games.

The coach and team have held up their end of the bargain.

Week night games for football and basketball are always going to be difficult for out of town fans. That is even true for fans on the other side of DFW and have to deal with rush hour traffic. I am in East Texas during the week but I come up to Fort Worth during the weekend. With that being said, there is no excuse for bad student attendance except for maybe finals week.

Until we play non-conference games people care about expect more of the same. That and people are not in the basketball mode yet.

Baylor is in Bball mode. Any idea how many season tickets TCU has sold?
Baylor also has a NC within the last 3 years too. That creates more excitement about the program.

We have sold almost all seats as season tickets unless I'm mistaken. But I think that's part of the problem. People aren't buying to attend every game, they're buying to attend a handful of big games.

I was there, and I'll continue to be there as much as possible. We have a good team with a high ceiling.
