NOTES
• TCU opens the 2020-21 season at home against Houston Baptist
Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
• Schollmaier Arena’s normal capacity of 6,800 has been reduced to
1,600 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• TCU is 72-37 all-time in season openers and has won the last six.
The Frogs are 58-13 in season openers at home and have won the last
12.
• Jamie Dixon begins his 18th season as head coach and fifth with
TCU. Dixon is 17-0 in season-opening games.
• Junior guard RJ Nembhard and junior center Kevin Samuel are
TCU’s two returning starters. Nemhbard started 28 games last season
and is TCU’s returning leading scorer with 12.1 points last year.
Samuel has started every game of the past two seasons (69) and
leads all returning Big 12 players in career blocks (162) and field goal
percentage (65.8).
• TCU’s 11 underclassmen is the fourth most in the country and ties
with Kansas State for the most in the Big 12 Conference. Among those
underclassmen are sophomore guards Francisco Farabello and PJ
Fuller, who started some games last season as true freshmen.
• Transfers Kevin Easily Jr. (Chattanooga) and Chuck O’Bannon (USC)
are expected to be major contributors after sitting out last season.
They are two of seven scholarship players who could make their TCU
debut Wednesday.
• Among TCU’s three departures from last season is Desmond Bane,
who graduated and left the program as its all-time leader in games
played, wins, 3-pointers and third in scoring. Bane was the 30th pick
in the 2020 NBA Draft to the Boston Celtics a pick that was traded to
the Memphis Grizzlies. He is TCU’s first draft pick in 21 years.

LAST TIME OUT
TCU played in one of the final games of the shortened 2019-20 season,
a 53-49 loss to Kansas State in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12
Championship in Kansas City. Nembhard led the Frogs with 19 points
on three made 3-pointers. TCU finished the season 16-16.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Houston Baptist returns three starters from last season’s team which
went 4-25 overall, 4-16 in the Southland Conference. The Huskies were
picked 13th in this season’s Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
HBU lost its top two scorers from last season. Sophomore guard Myles
Pierre averaged 8.1 points as a freshman and is the team’s leading
returning scorer. The Huskies are led by Ron Cottrell, who begins his
28th season and is the sixth-longest tenured coach among active DI
men’s basketball coaches.

SERIES HISTORY
• TCU leads the all-time series 6-1 and have won the last five. In the last
meeting, TCU led 44-19 at halftime en route to a 90-63 win on Nov. 19,
2015. Devonta Abron led the Frogs with 19 points. Prior to 2015, the last
time TCU and HBU played was Dec. 7, 1976.

UP NEXT
TCU faces Tulsa in the first game of the Hall of Fame Classic Presented
by ShotTracker, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at T-Mobile Center in Kansas
City, Mo. The Frogs will face either Liberty or South Carolina on Sunday.
