FORT WORTH--TCU ran into a sharp-shooting Baylor squad Saturday, falling by a 82-56 count to the Bears at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Senior forward Adrick McKinney led TCU in the scorebook with 15 points.

The setback dropped the Horned Frogs' season record to 9-11 overall, including 0-7 in Big 12 Conference play. Baylor improved to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12 with its third straight victory.

BU was hot from outside throughout the afternoon, and it proved to be more than the Frogs could handle. The Bears drilled 11-of-19 attempts from 3-point range, the most treys made against the Frogs since UNLV buried 12 last season in Las Vegas.

Baylor not only was sharp from outside, it played well in most facets of Saturday's game, taking advantage of nearly every opportunity that arose. The squad went 17-for-20 at the free-throw line (85.0 percent) and scored 25 second-chance points on 13 offensive rebounds. The Bears' edge in size over the Frogs resulted in a 40-30 overall rebounding margin. The squad also limited TCU to only 33.3 percent shooting from the floor overall.

McKinney led TCU in both scoring and rebounding, adding eight rebounds to go with his 15 points. The Fort Worth native reached double figures in points for the seventh time in the last 12 games, while he paced the Frogs on the glass for the 11th time in the last 14 contests.

Two other Frog seniors also hit double digits in points while matching previous career highs. Forward Connell Crossland totaled 12 points for the second time this season, going 6-of-8 from the field while adding a career-best three steals. Guard Nate Butler Lind scored 10 for only the third time in his career. Sophomore guard Kyan Anderson added seven points and four steals.

Baylor received a big game from Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Pierre Jackson, who led the squad's barrage from outside with 20 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Guard Gary Franklin also was sharp from deep, going 4-of-4 to account for his 12 points.

The Bears received open outside looks thanks in part to the success in the paint by forwards Isaiah Austin and Rico Gathers, who combined for 33 points and 16 rebounds. Austin accounted for 18 points and six rebounds. Gathers notched a double-double featuring 15 points and 10 boards.

BU led the contest from the outset as TCU made only 2-of-13 shots to open the afternoon. Despite the Frogs' slow start, the key stretch proved to be later in the half, as Baylor compiled an 18-2 run that ballooned its eight-point lead into a 24-point advantage. The Bears scored each point in the spurt in just over two-and-a-half minutes, while the only basket the Frogs could muster was a McKinney layup.

TCU regrouped from the run and scored nine of the final 11 points in the half, but the damage had been done. Baylor took a 43-26 lead into intermission, and the Frogs were unable to climb any closer the remainder of the game.

The Frogs take the next week off from competition before returning to action next Saturday at Texas. The Frogs and Longhorns are set to tip-off at 7 p.m. from the Frank Erwin Special Events Center, with the contest being televised live on the Longhorn Network.

POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor 82, TCU 56
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Jan. 26, 2013
Attendance: 6,277

TCU HEAD COACH Trent Johnson
On positives to take from the contest:
“Connell Crossland had great energy and played really well. Adrick McKinney has been our most consistent player for the past seven or eight games. They both have played well against good players like Baylor, which speaks volumes. They had a lot of good looks, and when you give them up to a team like Baylor, they are tough to guard. I like the talent level of both teams.

On what lies ahead for TCU:
“This break coming up (no mid-week game) comes at a good time to get the players rested, tightened up in the classroom and some time to go out on the road to recruit. ”

TCU SENIOR FORWARD Adrick McKinney
On the pace of the game:
“This game had a lot of long shots. When you can’t hold those shots and run them like we were trying to do, that’s how we took the loss tonight.”

On matching up against Baylor:
“It wasn’t a matchup problem. We match up pretty well. But when we play against good players like (Baylor has), they make those easy 20 points look easy.”

TCU SENIOR FORWARD Connell Crossland
On playing well in back-to-back games:
“It felt good, but I felt individually that somebody on the team needed to step up. Me being a senior, I wanted to do that. I don’t want to regret anything, so I just try to play hard to help my team. We need to just stay together as a team.”

BAYLOR HEAD COACH SCOTT DREW
Opening statement:
“I was pleased with our defense and rebounding. I thought the difference between this game and the last game was that we did a better job offensively getting better looks. We did a good job of finding the open man, and that is what you have to do if you want to be effective against a team that is very good defensively. To shoot 47 percent against them is a huge accomplishment. Eight-five percent from the free-throw line is a number that coaches are really excited about. Hopefully we can continue to shoot like that.”

On the injury to freshman forward Isaiah Austin:
“Coaches always get nervous when a player goes down, but (athletic trainer David Chandler) said that he was good to go. He has a high pain tolerance, and if he can play, he is going to play.”

On the 18-2 scoring run late in the first half:
“It was good for us to get some stops and move in transition … stretch the lead. That allowed us to be in a position where we had a lead at halftime. Then, as the game had a faster pace, it helped us.“

On dictating the tempo of the game:
“When the score became separated, that led to a faster-paced game. That spurt where we got some separation was really important for that. “

BAYLOR SENIOR GUARD PIERRE JACKSON
On the pace of the game:
“We weren’t used to them slowing the pace of the game the first time we played. This time we emphasized getting ready for it, and our teammates did a great job on scout.

“TCU likes to slow it down and play the whole shot clock. We tried to minimize it to one shot every possession.”

On teammates Brady Heslip and Gary Franklin:
“Those two are two of the best shooters in the nation, so I let them know that before and during the game so that they keep their confidence up. I just try to get them open shots and tell them to shoot it even if they aren’t open, because you never know if it will go in.”

BAYLOR FRESHMAN FORWARD RICO GATHERS
On the physical nature of the game:
“Well, we know that TCU’s bigs were going to be physical, so I have been working on being physical during practice. That plays a part and translates over to game time.”

On his success rebounding against TCU:
“It is just about wanting it. I know what I am capable of and what my impact on the game can be. That is with the boards with the offensive and defensive sides, so that is what I try to stick to.”

BAYLOR FRESHMAN FORWARD ISAIAH AUSTIN
On his concerns at halftime regarding his injured ankle:
“Initially (he was) a bit concerned, but just a shock factor and my teammates helped me through it. I just remember that I was on the ground. (It) felt pretty good in the second half.”
