GoFrogs: TCU Drops Game to K-State, 53-49
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – TCU erased a 17-point deficit but ultimately fell short in a 53-49 loss to Kansas State in the opening round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday night at Sprint Center.

Guards Desmond Bane and RJ Nembhard combined for 35 of TCU's 49 points. Bane had 16 points and Nembhard scored a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Kevin Samuel recorded game-highs in rebounds (9) and blocks (4).

The Frogs (16-16) started 4-of-17 from the field through the first 15 minutes of play, a stretch that included 10 forced turnovers from Kansas State (11-21). The Horned Frogs trailed by as many as 17 with 3:53 remaining in the first half. TCU closed the half on a 10-3 run, with all 10 points coming from Nembhard, to trim the deficit to 28-18 at the half.

TCU opened the second half making three of its first four 3-pointers and forced six KSU turnovers as part of a 17-7 run to tie the score at 35-35 with 11:37 remaining. TCU took its first lead of the game on a layup by Nembhard at 46-45 with 4:47 remaining. The Frogs stretched their lead to 49-45 with 3:36 remaining, their largest of the night, but TCU missed its final four shots as KSU went on an 8-0 run to close the game.

Team Notes
- Each of TCU's last six games have been decided by a single-digit scoring margin, including three of the last four by four points or less.
- TCU moved to 8-17 all-time against Kansas State, including 2-3 in meetings at a neutral site.
- TCU fell to 5-8 all-time at the Phillips Big 12 Championship and 1-3 against KSU in the tournament. The Wildcats eliminated the Frogs from the tournament for the third consecutive season.
- The Horned Frogs moved to 1-2 this season and 14-7 under Jamie Dixon in neutral site games.
- The Horned Frogs outshot the Wildcats 40 percent to 38.9 percent. TCU fell to 14-3 this season and 74-16 under Dixon when outshooting its opponent.
- Kansas State did not record a single blocked shot, marking the first time since Nov. 12, 2019 against Louisiana that an opponent failed to block a TCU shot.
- The Frogs recorded 12 assists compared to the Wildcats' 10, the third time in the last four games in which TCU has recorded more assists than its opponent.
- TCU was held to zero bench points for the first time since March 2, 2019 against Texas Tech.
- The Frogs started with the lineup of Desmond Bane, RJ Nembhard, Jaire Grayer, Kevin Samuel and PJ Fuller for the fourth time this season (2-2).

Individual Notes
- RJ Nembhard scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Nembhard led TCU in scoring for the sixth time this season and seventh time in his career.
- Nembhard had three 3-pointers for the third time in his last six games.
- Nembhard also dished out a team-high four assists.
- Desmond Bane played in his 141st game of his career, passing JD Miller (2015-19) for the most games played in program history.
- Bane scored 16 points, including 14 on 6-of-11 shooting in the second half.
- Bane had nine rebounds to tie the team lead in rebounding. He led the Frogs in rebounding for the 10th time this season and 17th time in his career. TCU is now 12-5 in those games.
- Bane shot 2-of-4 from 3-point range and has now made a three in 22 consecutive games and made multiple 3-pointers in six straight games.
- On the defensive end, Bane recorded a pair of steals and blocks. It was his second career game in which he recorded multiple steals and blocks, the first of which occurring on Feb. 8 against Kansas.
- Kevin Samuel scored seven points on 3-of-3 shooting and tied the team-high with nine rebounds. It was the 18th time this season that Samuel led the team in rebounds.
- On the defensive side, Samuel recorded four blocks, his most in six career contests against Kansas State in his career, and added two steals. It was his 11th career game with multiple blocks and steals.
- Samuel now has 85 blocked shots on the season, the second-most in a season in program history. He passed Vladimir Brodziansky's total of 82 blocks in the 2016-17 season.
- Freshman PJ Fuller was the only other TCU player to score as he chipped in seven points and added a steal and blocked shot on defense.
