FORT WORTH – A pair of big innings helped No. 15 TCU run away with a 7-1 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. Adam Oviedo and Michael Landestoy each tallied three hits in the win for TCU.

The Rundown
TCU opened the scoring with a four-run second and never looked back. Josh Watsonwas hit by the pitch to open the inning and scored on a Michael Landestoy double to put the Frogs on top. After an error allowed A.J. Balta to reach, Oviedo cranked a double off the center field wall to push the lead to 2-0. A pair of groundouts from Coby Boulware and Zach Humphreys extended the lead to 4-0.

The Golden Lions threatened to cut into the lead in the fifth, but a great defensive play by Balta in right to cut down a runner trying to move to third on a base hit squelched the rally. With the bases loaded, Charles King (1-1) got a weak groundout to end the inning.

TCU translated the momentum into a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Landestoy started a two-out rally with another double. A bunt single and a stolen base from Balta had two in scoring position. Oviedo delivered the two-out single to bring home both runners for a 6-0 lead.

UAPB picked up an unearned run in the seventh to break up the shutout, but TCU got it back in the bottom of the inning to restore its six run lead. With a runner caught in a rundown, Conner Shepherd raced home with the seventh run of the game.

Russell Smith started and tossed 4 2/3 shutout innings. He allowed five hits, walked two and fanned six. King allowed an unearned run on three hits, walked one and struck out two in 2 1/3 innings. Trey Morris and Dalton Brown pitched scoreless innings to close out the game.
