TCU Bounces Back With 9-5 Win Over UTPA

Teakell tosses career-high seven innings

Final Stats | Notes

F0RT WORTH - A career night for Trey Teakell helped TCU get back in the win column as TCU topped UT Pan American 9-5 Tuesday at Lupton Stadium. Boomer White drove in a career-high three runs in the game.

Teakell (1-0) was strong in making his first start since March 12. The sophomore tossed a career-high seven innings, tied his career high with three strikeouts and held the Broncs to a run on four hits and a walk. He retired the final eight batters he faced in the contest.

TCU opened the scoring in the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks to Cody Jones and Paul Hendrix. Derek Odell lined a single into right center to drive in Jones for a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Teakell pitched around a lead-off double, but he wouldn't escape a triple by Jacob Huckabay to open the fourth. The Broncs tied the game on a base hit by Bryan Ramirez.

The Horned Frogs wasted no time regaining the lead in the bottom of the inning. Kevin Cron dropped a single into left to open the inning. A one-out walk to Keaton Jones and a base hit by Kyle Bacak loaded the bases. With two outs, White lined the pitch just inside the third base line for a bases-clearing double and a 4-1 lead.

Another run crossed the plate for the Frogs in the fifth as the lead grew to four, 5-1. Odell singled with one out and moved to third on a double off the bat of Cron. Jerrick Suiter hit a sacrifice fly to right to drive in the run.

A four-spot in the sixth broke the game open as the Frogs took a commanding 9-1 lead. The bases were loaded with one out for Hendrix, who singled sharply through the right side to drive in a pair of runs. A balk drove in the third run of the inning and Odell capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Broncs made the game interesting in the eighth inning as they pushed across four runs on five hits. With runners on the corners, Travis Evans took the mound and retired the only two batters he faced to end the inning with the Frogs still in control, 9-5. Riley Ferrell closed the game for the Frogs, striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth.

The win improves TCU to 12-16 overall. Game two of the midweek series is set for Wednesday night at 6:30. Trevor Seidenberger will make his sixth start of the season for the Frogs.
