Drove to Fort Worth from Houston on a Friday night probably 12-15 years ago to attend a TCU football game. The traffic getting out of Houston was awful so we didn’t hit Waco til about 11:30. Decided to check into a hotel there. Asked the clerk where we could get something to eat. Is there a Whataburger close by? We were told the Whatty would be bad news that time of night so they tried to give directions to an alternate place. We got lost and ended up in that downtown area park. Bunch of unfortunate people wandering around like zombies looking for crack. Made a quick u-turn and started back. Passed the Whataburger about 11:55 and there was a line of at least 30 people in the parking lot trying to get something before they closed. Went back to hotel and loaded up on crappy snacks. Never stopped in Waco again.
