GoFrogs: Second Quarter Effort Leads Frogs Past Jayhawks
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Lauren Heard tallied 23 points and the TCU Horned Frogs scored a season-high on the way to an 87-74 road win over the Kansas Jayhawks, Saturday evening at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Horned Frogs moved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the Big 12 standings, while Kansas dropped to 12-10 on the season and 1-10 in league play.

THE RUNDOWN
Kansas drained six three-pointers and led 24-17 after the first quarter of play, but TCU scorched the Jayhawks for a season-high 34 points in the second quarter and took a 51-38 lead into the halftime break.

After trailing for much of the first half, TCU's offense got into a groove midway through the second quarter, outscoring KU 34-14 in the frame. After going up 35-34 with 4:34 left to play, TCU would close out the frame on a 16-4 run.

Kansas outscored the Frogs 14-12 in the third quarter, but the Jayhawks would only get back within nine points before TCU put the game on ice in the fourth quarter.

Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the game, but TCU would go on to finish shooting 51.5 percent from the field (34-66), 41.2 percent from three-point range (7-17) and 60 percent from the charity stripe (12-20).

TCU out-rebounded KU, 37-28, and totaled 21 points on turnovers in the game.

UP NEXT
TCU is back on the road next Wednesday, Feb. 12, taking on No. 2/1 Baylor in Waco. Tip-off between the Horned Frogs and Bears is set for 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. The contest will be televised live on the Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

• TCU started with a lineup of Jayde Woods, Lauren Heard, Kianna Ray, Jaycee Bradley and Adeola Akomolafe for the 19th time this season. TCU is now 16-3 with this starting line-up.
• TCU moved to 13-6 all-time against Kansas. The Horned Frogs are now 5-3 when playing the Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse.
• The win pushed TCU's winning streak against Kansas to five straight games.
• TCU is 5-0 on the road in Big 12 games, the team's best record through five conference road games since going 5-0 as a member of the WAC in 2000-01.
• The Horned Frogs are 8-2 through the first 10 Big 12 games for the first time in program history.
• TCU's 17-4 overall record is the best 21-game mark since a 17-4 record set back in 2003-04.
• The Horned Frogs trailed in the first quarter for just the eighth time this season. TCU is now 4-4 on the year when trailing after the first 10 minutes of play.
• TCU scored a season-high 34 points in the second quarter and took a 51-38 lead into the halftime break.
• The 34 points is a new season-high scored in any quarter this season, while the 51 first half points tied a season-high.
• TCU's 87 points is a new season-for the team and the most points scored in a game since scoring 88 points against Alcorn State (Dec. 29, 2018) last season.

PLAYER NOTES
Lauren Heard finished the game with 23 points, eclipsing 10 points or more for the 18th straight game and for the 20th time this season. She is the first player to score 10+ points in 18 straight games since Zahna Medley in 2014.
• Heard scored 20+ points for the ninth time this season. She has scored 20 points or more in five of TCU's 10 Big 12 games.
Ryann Payne finished the game with 9 points – her most points in a game since scoring 11 points against Nicholls State (Nov. 14, 2019).
Kianna Ray finished game with four assists, giving her 387 career assists and tying Adrianne Ross for No. 5 on the all-time career assists list.
Yummy Morris had six points for the Frogs, her highest point total in a game since her career-high 16 points at Middle Tennessee State (Dec. 12, 2019).
Jayde Woods finished the game with 15 points, notching 10+ points for the 12th time this season. She has now scored 10+ points in seven straight games.
Adeola Akomolafe played in her 127th career game and is now tied for sixth all-time in school history in games played. She is one game away from tying Emily Carter with 128 games played.
