GoFrogs: Program Feature: JP Richardson
By Drew Rogers
For TCU wide receiver JP Richardson, the matchup between TCU and Oklahoma State holds a deeper meaning. Having started his career with the Cowboys, JP looks to face his former teammates on the field. Since transferring, JP has embraced his role with the Horned Frogs, where he's quickly become a standout leader.
Known for his relentless work ethic, JP's leadership style is focused on consistency and commitment. "I like to be vocal when needed, but more than anything, my leadership style is by example," he explains. "I show up every day, try to be the same person, bring positive energy, and go hard at practice – just have that dog mentality and good energy."
His leadership approach makes a powerful impact, understanding that when teammates see him putting in the effort day after day, it sets a standard they want to follow. "Guys respect you when they see you putting your head down and working your tail off," he says.
Since his move to TCU, JP has leaned on the mentorship of his roommate and teammate, team captain Chase Curtis. For JP, Chase represents the kind of leader he aspires to be; steady, reliable, and always there. "Chase is the kind of guy you want on your team. He shows up every single day, works his tail off, and he's always the same person."
Outside of football, JP's biggest role model is his dad, who he calls his "superhero." His dad's advice is simple but powerful and has stayed with him throughout his career. "He always talks about alignment, assignment, and attitude," JP explains. "It's something I carry with me every single day." This focus on knowing his role, staying grounded, and keeping a positive attitude has been JP's foundation, reminding him to work hard and stay humble.
For JP, helping his team succeed is what drives him, fueling his 'dog' mentality and pushing him to give his all on and off the field.
Whether he's stepping up as a leader or preparing for the next phase of his life, JP is focused on making his time at TCU count. As he gets ready to face Oklahoma State and continue his college football journey, JP is ready to approach every opportunity with the same relentless mindset.
