GoFrogs: Otway Named First-Ever NIT Tennis MVP

PEACHTREE, GEORGIA – Jade Otway becomes the first-ever NIT MVP recipient. She was named MVP for her outstanding run in the 2023 NIT tournament going unbeaten in all three matches.

Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker has seen the hard work the sophomore has put in and it has paid off significantly:

"This is a culmination of what Jade has done the entire season. Her growth and development from last season to this season was one of the biggest jumps I've seen in any player I've ever coached. Much of that was due to her coach ability and just overall attitude and enjoyment of competition. She loves to compete, and she loves the game. We are very proud of her and we feel she has a great team of people around her including her parents and coach back home in New Zealand, as well as our staff here. We are all on the same page and aiming for Jades continued progress and enjoyment."

The sophomore raised the trophy high in wake of TCU 4-0 sweep over Stetson for the inaugural NIT Championship. Otway led the Frogs going 3-0 in singles play. She only dropped 10 games overall in the tournament combined. In her first match against the UC San Diego she finished (6-0, 6-1) while clinching the doubles point 6-3 with her partner Mercedes Arisetgui.

In the semifinals match, Otway and Aristegui were the only doubles team for TCU to come away with a win in a 6-3 decision. She did not stop there, as she bested Wyoming's (xx) in a straight set 6-1, 6-2 decision.

Lastly in the final championship match of the 2023 spring season, Otway secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Stetson the aid her team to a sweep.

Otway looks to continue her progress at the collegiate level as well as strive for her ultimate goal to the pros. Assistant coach Christopher Williams has seen the progress from the underclassman.

"Jade's results this season on the pro tour and the collegiate side align with her goals. She wants to be a professional and so she handles herself as such. She is establishing herself as one of the best and we will see her ranking rise this summer with the schedule she has made. We are very proud of her commitment and representation of TCU."
