FORT WORTH – Sarah Marmelstein, who has multiple accolades as a professional player along with being a 2020 Tokyo Olympian, has been named as an Assistant Coach for TCU Beach Volleyball, Head Coach Hector Gutierrezannounced on Wednesday.

"I am beyond blessed and incredibly excited to step into the incredible culture the TCU beach volleyball program has built," Marmelstein said. "So many great people have paved the way, creating a firm foundation for the next upcoming generations to stand on, grow and get better. I can't wait to get to Texas, work with these talented women and help them become the best athletes and people they can be."

Marmelstein, formerly Sponcil, has had a multitude of experiences on both the national and international stage, both in indoor and beach volleyball.

"Really, really excited about adding Sarah to the staff," Gutierrez said. "Since I've been coaching, I can remember coaching against her. She was one of those players you could see was an extra coach on the team, an extra coach on the roster. I've been following her in her professional career, and she's been nothing short of amazing. I think the girls will really appreciate working with someone of that caliber. She understands the game, she understands what it takes to be on the top consistently. She has a lot to give back to the young players, and she's mentioned that is something she would really like to do."

Her accomplishments in the sand are highlighted by her appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on behalf of Team USA. Alongside her partner Kelly Claes the duo made history as the youngest beach volleyball team to ever represent the United States at the Olympics.

At 24, Marmelstein was also the second-youngest beach volleyball player to ever represent the Red, White and Blue at the Olympic Games.

Her accomplishments don't stop there, as she also won gold at the AVP Hermosa Beach Open, the FIVB Ostrava Beach Open and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

Thanks to her success on the AVP Tour in 2022, she was named Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by her peers.

She competed collegiately for both Loyola Marymount and UCLA, and during her time with the Bruins she became a two-time National Champion in 2018 and 2019.

With UCLA, she was an All-American and Pair of the Year recipient in 2018. She also competed in indoor volleyball, ranking third in the country in total assists in 2018.

At LMU, Marmelstein was named WCC Player of the Year and was an All-WCC First Team Selection.

The Phoenix native won gold for Team USA at the Four Nations U21 Tournament in Sydney Australia.

Marmelstein also has many proud accomplishments in indoor volleyball, most recently seeing action for the San Diego Mojo, a member of the Pro Volleyball Federation.

With the Mojo in 2025, she appeared in 23 matches and had 342 assists, the third most in a season in the franchise's history.

Prior to joining the Mojo, she competed for the Grand Rapids Rise and helped them reach the PVF Championship Final.

She also boasts international indoor volleyball accolades, helping Team USA claim silver at the 2024 Women's NORCECA Pan American Cup in Mexico.
